Saw this headline at links.
Bought some great memories back for me.
I was 16 and remember hearing the tape in my sisters car and thinking what is this..Eds guitar work was outstanding and just that fun loving summer time feel..One of the Tours I really wished I had seen..The vibe & happiness from these cats in LWAN was a thing that put a smile on my face still does watching it.The solo from 5150 on that DVD is unbelievable .
Would love to hear thoughts and memories from you guys in the US who saw this tour and first time you heard the cd?,

5150 was the first tour I saw Van Halen. The energy and enthusiasm was infectious on that album and tour. Great memories for sure!

On this day in 1986, I was at my 3rd show in a row from this tour in Detroit.

My favorite VH tour & album with Sam. The energy was through the roof. :)

I remember driving around listening the whole tape on full volume from beginning to end. I can’t say that about much I bought since then in 86. I remember the radio playing get up here after wctbl came out. I miss those times for sure.

One of my favourites.
Love the section they added to the live version at 3.32 mark.
Remember reading that the big arse monitor beside Al just had Ed in it and monitors in front of Ed had Al..No wonder Al is half deaf with that monster to his left.

Ah yes, the Detroit show from 5-10-86. Filmed by Otto, My audio and redone by Silver Stallion.

My favorite night of the 3 shows. 8)

5150 was one of the first CDs I got. I remember when WCTBL hit the radio, I didn’t care for the tune too much but When I got the CD and heard 5150 and Summer Nights, I thought, this could be OK, and then I really liked Dreams and Best Of Both Worlds. I thought it was a pretty decent album.

Big Dave fan, but I loved this album when it came out. I was in college when the tour started and couldn’t go to the Pullman, WA (or was it Seattle?) show because I had a soccer game. My buddy brought me back a BTO shirt, though, which I loved. It said something like “BTO – Half a Ton of Rock and Roll”. The band kinda lost me after this one, though.

When 5150 was released, I loved it. But, years later, I still loved the songs, but hated the production. Live Without A Net sounded so much better than the actual album. Al’s drums on that album sound like crap, and Ed’s guitar tone completely changed.

Would have been interesting if Ted Templeman had produced that album.

The poor folks play for keeps down here…They’re the living dead. Nobody rules these streets at night like Van Halen!!

Ironically, time did tell who stands the test of time… 5150 has not aged well at all. Very dated and chock full of hagarisms… the follow-up to 1984 was guaranteed to go #1, no matter how bad the new singer was.

Resident dickhead. I will hurt your delicate feelings.

I respectfully disagree. I think 5150 still is a kick ass album. I like all four albums they did with Sammy, but I don’t think they ever topped 5150. The energy is infectious and the song writing is good. I do agree that it could have been sub par and still made #1 after 1984. I just think that it was and still is a great album, which helped it along to be as successful as it is.

Some great music on 5150.
Dave fans like Dave stuff,,,Sammy fans the Sam stuff.
And fans of Ed and their music like everything they have done which is what I like.
At the end of the day I dont care who is singing. If Ed, Al and Wolf are playing I’ll like it.
