wjamflan: Maybe this is a better way to put it, although he seems to have at least lost the ability to scream like he did back in the 70′s and 80′s. That wouldn’t bother me as much if he wasn’t trying to sing harmony lines above what he originally sang – see Dance The Night Away etc. The higher register of his voice is not pleasant, and he lacks control.

When Wolf and Edward come in on their parts, Dave adjusts and seems to be okay, but when left to sing on his own, that’s when it’s pretty iffy IMO.

Dave is still quite entertaining, and when you’re there you don’t mind the vocals nearly as much as when you’re sitting at home or listening in the car.

ffoner:
Anyone who’s upset that Roth doesn’t sound like he did in 1981 is living a logical contradiction. It’s 2013. None of us are the same as we were three decades ago. Roth isn’t the same. Eddie doesn’t play the same as he did in 78. Hell the band isn’t even the same lineup.

Those who are complaining about Roth’s voice? Pull out the old albums and hear them the way you want him to sound today, because that’s the only way you’ll get that experience.

The past is gone.

Greg – I’m not upset that he doesn’t sound like he did in 1981. It’s just painful to hear him butcher the songs we love from that time. FWIW, I do listen to the old albums too, but my original point was that it’s too bad that Dave didn’t have the same kind of vocal luck that Steven Tyler seems to have had. If you or anybody else loves the way he sounds today on record or in concert, more power to you, but I’m sure as hell not shelling out $150 to go see it. I hoped that 2012 was a fluke, sickness etc. The original vids in this thread and the others since posted just confirmed my worst fears: Dave’s voice is shot… or his approach is shot…. whatever it is, he sounds awful IMHO.

The recording up on DIME is 94 minutes long, so they ended up doing pretty good at sticking to a 90 minute set. I haven’t listened to it yet (other than the samples) to see if it felt rushed.

I’ve listened to half of it so far. Not much talking in between songs, but the show doesn’t feel rushed to me. The band sounds great!

I agree with this as well, I’m not expecting dave to do the harmonic screams of the 80′s or the Drum Riser Jumps but the man can sing in his natural baritone voice but chooses not too????????? Now as far as his schtick is concerned it changed around 1985 but Dave is Dave I can handle that when the mans vocals are cherry!

All I know is that it is 2013 and the guys seem happy and healthy. It is great they are still touring and maybe recording another album. Maybe I am easily satisfied, but at this stage that is more than I could have ever expected from VH.

When you turn on your stereo, does it return the favor?

Starting to put some of my photo’s together.
I manage to get a media pass and was in the photo pit for Kings Of Chaos..Once Aerosmith & VH came out security was tight and would only let one photographer in the section.

Was a great day but standing for 11.5 hours hard work on the body.
