Back in early October, I ordered the Sammy Hagar & The Best of All Worlds Band – The Residency [SHM-CD] (w/sticker) from Japan. Paid about $25 bucks for the CD, and about $27 bucks for shipping. The CD shipped via FedEx on Oct 23rd, and arrived at my house on the 27th. Everyone was happy for the most part – the sticker wasn’t anything special.

A full month later, on Nov. 27th (thanks for the Thanksgiving downer), I get an E-Mail from FedEx saying that I owe them $8.25 for tariffs.

Doing what I do best, I ignored it. Then I got another E-Mail the following day saying the same thing.

A week later a letter arrived in the mail from FedEx containing a bill for the $8.25.

A breakdown of the fee on the bill says:
$3.75 Customs Duty
$4.50 Disbursement Fee

Anyone else run into anything like this with overseas orders? I’ve had to pay some fees up front at other places before they’d ship, but this is the first I’ve had a shipper come after me a month after they delivered the package.

I would tell Fed-Ex to fuck off. The tariffs are based on selling costs to import. Fed-ex does not pay them, the seller (i.e. you) would.

To me it sounds like someone throwing around the word, “tariff” just to justify additional fees or charges. They want to charge more but want cover for it. I could be wrong but that’s how it feels to me.
