RockMan: Every band hopes to find a charismatic, hard working, energetic frontman like Dee Snider. There must have been times when you thought you had struck gold, can you share your thoughts on him and his contribution to the band.

Jay Jay French: He is certainly, I think, one of the most underrated frontmen. I do not think he gets the respect he deserves. I think he is better that David Lee Roth and no question better than Ozzy, I mean he is better than all of them. In terms of an entertainer he is more responsible; he understands what he is supposed to do better than these other bands and that is really an important factor, he really gets what you are supposed to do as a singer, as being an entertainer and he takes his job very seriously. He does his vocal exercises every day for like two hours before he goes on stage, he has done this from the day I met him and he has always taken a very professional approach to the fact that “I am a performer and I get paid to perform and I am going to be on that stage at this time and I am going to deliver”. I mean how many frontmen just do not do it? They take their audience for granted, he does not take his audience for granted, so he works really hard at what he does.Hhe wrote some great, great songs although he has not written, by his own admission except for the song 30, he has not really written a song in about 20 years. I think he just decided he did not have anything to say anymore, I believe that is what he has said in interviews. But when I am on stage with him I do not think there is a better frontman out there, that is just my opinion, I just do not see a better frontman than Dee.

I read this same interview on Blabbermouth the other day. Yep, there’s no reason to write/record new music any more, and Dee Snider is a better frontman than DLR. Whatever, dude.

Good for Jay Jay.. he should feel good about his frontman.. but calling out legends is just weak.

Resident dickhead. I will hurt your delicate feelings.

I like both Dee and Jay Jay, but I agree fully with Vain. Having said that, there is a reason why Jay Jay mentioned DLR: it’s because Jay Jay knows DLR is so highly regarded. He could have said Dee is better than Steven Tyler … or Paul Stanley … or any number of other guys. But he picked the guy at the top of the hill of frontmen. So in an unintended way – it’s actually a compliment.

Those were my thoughts exactly. It’s great to support your guy, and if you’re going to start comparing frontmen, DLR is at the top of most lists. Why, just read the last paragraph of this View Master description! I think that says it all.

So what you are trying to say is that DLR is better than Dee Snider because he is in 3D? Hehe :)

I totally agree with Jay Jay. There is no better frontman than Dee Snider…..For Twisted Sister. I like Dee Snider, but TS is not much more than a one (and a half) hit wonder. If it was not for the silly video on MTV, they prolly would have never even been that.

Funny thing about Twisted Sister … the first time I ever saw them was back in the early ’80s on a music show and they were lip synching. But it wasn’t a show where bands lip synched. I figured that must be their normal routine. It really turned me off, and I pretty much wrote them off right there on the spot. And I didn’t ever listen to them again until they came to Korea in 2003 and they did a free show at the base where I was assigned. I filmed that show and became a fan that night.

I have no problem with a band member thinking his guy is the best at what he does. Doesn’t make it true.
