Just saw this on Facebook.

Eddie Van Halen underwent an emergency surgery for a severe bout of Diverticulitis. No further surgeries are needed and a full recovery is expected within 4 – 6 months.

Van Halen’s scheduled November 2012 tour of Japan is currently being rescheduled and the band looks forward to seeing and playing for their fans in 2013.

Get well Edward.

Ouch! But, on the bright side…it gives Dave (more than) adequate time to find his cords again!

That was major surgery and the recovery time reflects that. From wikipedia: “Emergency surgery is necessary for people whose intestine has ruptured; intestinal rupture always results in infection of the abdominal cavity”. Get well Eddie.

Yeah that makes sense as my Mum has suffered from Diverticulitis for many years but has never had an operation, she just manages it with meds and watching her diet.

What, did Dave misplace some microphone cables or something? Hopefully he uses the time to build up his vocal chords too

Wow, that sucks for Eddie and family. Hope he recovers well without any complications. Touring can wait, just get healthy again.

My aunt had this and it’s pretty awful. Treatable, but takes a while to recover. Explains all the cancellations maybe

Just goes to show that these guys are getting pretty old, and anything like this could happen at any time. Hope Ed has no complications or infections from surgery.

Hopefully, they will not cancel the Japanese shows, and Ed returns to be completely healthy.

The poor folks play for keeps down here…They’re the living dead. Nobody rules these streets at night like Van Halen!!

Few updates at vhnd.

Eddie update from CNN:

Eddie Van Halen is home recovering from surgery.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitarist had an operation for diverticulitis, an inflammation and infection of the intestines.

According to a rep for the rock group Van Halen, the guitarist first developed the condition while on tour.

When he came off the road, he had a serious flare-up.

Eddie Van Halen spent three weeks in the hospital after surgery to remove the infected intestine resulted in another infection when he popped a few stitches.

His home recovery is expected to last four to six months.

Van Halen’s tour dates for November are being rescheduled for next year.

I wonder if that’s the reasons shows were cancelled. I hope he recovers quickly and is feeling better soon.
