videoman320: Vain you bring up a good point. A while back didn’t someone post something on this site that when Eddie was asked about a live dvd from the tour he replied there is no need for one the bootleggers have done a good job on this trour?

That rings a bell.. i seem to recall him mentioning it.. it makes sense. The 2012-13 tour was bootleg heaven. It’s too bad this technology didn’t exist in the 80′s!

Maybe Eddie wants to retire. Why should he keep doing stuff? He is getting up in years, undoubtedly makes a good living through his endorsements and royalties. Maybe he no longer wants to release new music and tour the world.

Eddie hasn’t made much money off of anything written after 1998, really. I mean, according to Dave, all of ADOKT was written over two decades ago and Ed isn’t making much off of endorsements and royalties. He has his own line of guitars and guitar accessories as well as clothing. I think that was his dig at Sam and Mike when he says Sam made his money off Van Halen by buying out on the Cabo Wabo, which was named after a Van Halen song and was owned by the band to begin with, then selling tequila and rum to make his fortune. Mikey was selling hot sauce and then got an endorsement for his own bass. I’m not knocking either of them, since I’d do the same thing if I could. I’m just saying, I think this was Ed’s rub against them. They were making money by selling booze and food. He has been selling his guitar line since the early 90′s and was endorsing guitars as far back as the mid 80s.
Point being, it seems Eddie’s focus seems to have shifted from writing and trying to appeal to the public to marketing and selling guitars and musical instruments while capitalizing on the Eddie Van Halen trademark stripes. Everyone loves the stripes. Not everyone loves his new appproach to writing. “III” was a perfect example of that. He got used to everything he did turing to platinum and the massive rejection turned him off to exposing himself to criticism. Just my .02….

I always thought it was Eddie that used Bill Fold. From what the guy “Bill Fold” said at the links it almost sounds as if an album/cd we can hold in our hands may not be the format to which new music is released. Maybe they are thinking more along the lines of digital downloads and if there is video being put together possibly the same for that. If they are aware of the great bootleg vids that were shot by fans on the last tour, than they are also aware that most of the time they are downloaded. I believe it’s apparent that Van Halen will release something new in the future. As far as Eddie Trunk having an interview with Mike, that’s cool but I doubt it has anything to do with VH other than the usual questions. The rumor about Sam is just that. One person speculating on an internet chat room mentions it and the next thing you know every attention whore with a twitter/facebook account spreads it.

An ’08 show would be really nice as long as it’s after Ed got out of rehab. He was on fire on that Baltimore May 15th show. It was so nice to see him playing like that. The ’07 leg was 100 times better than ’04, but you could tell he was still screwed up.

No doubt.. I saw a rescheduled show in St.Louis.. I think it was April 26 and WOW what a difference with Ed since the last time I had seen him was the Feb S.Florida ‘meltdown’ show before the break… He was crushing it!

Those solos are just awesome, especially at 2:19! Smokin’! I don’t know if I’ve seen the meltdown in FL.

Yup Pete, that was one of mine. 3rd Row at Mohegan Sun, May 20, 2008. Pete also reminded me of this shot I took. One of my favorites. It should be poster size.

Al gets copies of all of the DVDs (at least, copies of the ones that I’ve authored); presumably he has at least mentioned something to Ed about them.

Trivia tidbit: Al prefers DVD9s – and doesn’t want blu-rays because he doesn’t have a blu-ray player (yet).

I wonder why Ed is so adamant about not releasing the old catalog, live shows, demos, etc. Al and Mike obviously have an appreciation and interest in keeping and collecting the bootlegs. It seems like Al just goes along with whatever Ed wants to do.

That’s some cool info Randy. Do you send copies directly to him?

Someone else does it. I didn’t even know about this until long after he started getting them.
