Hey Guys,
I know we have all been to a ton of shows and have had and shared some great memories, but is there something that stands out that u will always remember?? For me, it was the 1st time I saw KISS……..December 20th 1987, Meadowlands Arena. Crazy Nights Tour. Ted Nugent opened. Man was I psyched!!! Unfortunately, the evening didn’t start out as planned. I was going to the show with a buddy of mine who lived up north and a friend of his. The plan was to meet at a bowling alley called “Hill Lanes” which is located right off the parkway. I lived in a town called “Howell Township” and there’s a bowling alley called “Howell Lanes.” Hill Lanes…..Howell Lanes. I think u know where this is going. No cell phones, no pagers……………..NOTHING!!! There I am stuck at Hill Lanes for 2 hours waiting for my friend to show up. He thought I said “Howell” when I said “Hill.” I called his house, spoke to his mom and told her the situation. 1 hour till Nugent hits the stage and I’m still stuck. I got off the pay phone at the bowling alley, getting ready to go back to my car, and WALLAH………………there’s my buddy!!! After a quick chat to explain what happened, we hopped in his car, hit the Burger King Drive Thru, got on the freeway, made it to the arena, in our seats and at that very second, the house lights came down for Nugent!! It couldn’t have been more stressful and more crazy, but the evening turned out to be a KILLER and memorable. Almost 25 years later, I still remember it. Another quickie was the Van Halen Monsters Of Rock in Philadelphia. June 88. Same friends. Beautiful sunny Saturday, tailgating in the parking lot…beer, food, everything was awesome. Only this time, we got separated the whole day cause of the general admission. We just agreed to meet back at the car. Kinda sucked when u couldn’t share the day with your friends. Oh well. It happens. Who’s next!!!

Matt

Nice topic Matt,

Here is mine.

1998, VHIII tour. My mom some how managed through work to get meet and greet passes for me and my wife for the show. Top it off through a radio contest on WCCC I won 3rd row seats. About a week before the show the same radio station, WCCC was running a contest to interview Van Halen. I couldn’t participate since I already won the 3rd row seats but I called in anyway. Long story short I won the opportunity to interview VAN HALEN. When the radio DJ asked me for my name and info I gave him my brother in laws name, also a huge VH fan that I have been to many shows with. Here is the kicker, the DJ called him a few hours later to confirm everything and I hadn’t had a chance to tell him yet. He thought someone was fuckin with him and didn’t believe the DJ at first. After some convincing that he entered the contest and thinking it was something I did he bought it.
Day of the show we all head for the Meadows music theater. My brother in law and his wife get in early for the interview portion, and he gets to interview Ed and Al. Meanwhile I also brought along one of my best friends and his wife to which I also was able to win 2 tickets for through another radio station WHCN.
Now, me and the wife have meet and greet passes so we head for that. Meanwhile my best friend and wife that came with us entered another radio station contest at the venue for meet and greet. They won. Next thing I know they are right there with us in line to have our pic taken with Van Halen.
It was a hell of a memorable night.

THAT’S SICK SICKMAN!!!! LOVE THE STORY!!! Here in Los Angeles, the top 40 radio station would do one of those top 9 at 9 things, where you write down all the songs played, call in and if u got through and named the songs, you would win concert tickets, or some good cash!!! We would use my girlfriend’s daughters name, her grandmother, her aunt. Anything to get our hands on the prize so I see what u mean sickman. GREAT STORY again.

The contest to win the 3rd row seats was that they played a quick 10 second mix of 3 vh tunes and you had to name them.
To win the interview you just had to submit a question and if they liked the question you win. My question was for Ed and it was “Would you ever record an acoustic album?”

For me it was seeing U2 on 10/25/01. Less than six weeks after 9/11 at MSG. It was the most emotional concert for me. Having known a few people that died on 9/11, it started the healing process. When they played BAD, I started to cry and looked over at my wife who was also balling, then when they played Walk On, and they ran all the names of the dead othe screen, I had goose bumps and still get them as I write this.
Still my favorite concert of all time.
If you have it on bootleg, give it a listen, I can’t listen without tearing up.

I usually have a bunch of stories.

I guess one of my favorites … I went to see Huey Lewis and The News (yeah, that’s right, I’m man enough to admit I went to see Huey on the Small World tour). It was at Alpine Valley in East Troy, Wisconsin. Me and a couple buddies just walked in the main gate and started walking down the hill. We had seats in the reserved section (up front). I was not looking where I was walking. I was looking over my shoulder behind me at the stand selling shirts. A friend of mine was in front of me and a friend of mine was behind me. Again I was not watching where I was walking. Well, apparently I wasn’t the only one. Some chick was walking up the hill toward the stand selling shirts and we walked right into each other. Her hand hit (or grabbed) my groin. We both said sorry and excuse me but all of her friends were laughing and my buddy was laughing so hard. After we walked away I turned to my friend and said, she just grabbed me! I didn’t even realise it at the time. I don’t know if she did it on purpose or by accident (probably accident but I wanted to say it was on purpose). It was very funny. Maybe I’ll post some of the other crazy stuff that has happened to me later.

Very funny Frank. That would have been a perfect way to meet someone and what a story it would have been. I would have admitted seeing Huey Lewis as well. Before my metal concert days, I saw Debarge (THATS RIGHT), Weird Al and The Monkees at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey.

My favorite concert story…just check this out! To this day…I still watch this clip…to share Steecoe’s absolute joy of the moment is PRICELESS! Just think…the first time I heard them play this…it was just another song off their NEW album…Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, June 19, 1981!

Elton John 1986 at Madison Square Garden…my friend and I bought a pair of large clown glasses and attached a note that said “Elton, Brooklyn loves you…say hello to Erik and Mark”. We ran around to the back of the stage and threw the glasses on stage. Elton walked right past them. When we got back to our seats way in the back, everyone was yelling that Elton put them on AND said hello to us as well. We missed it because we had to go back into the halls to get back to our seats. On the way home, my friend recorded the show and sure as shit, we heard Elton say hello to us on the bootleg tape. The tape is long since gone, but it was a great memory.

I’ll have to check when I get home Brian…I can’t get into You Tube at work. I forgot at which song he said hello. He did a string of shows in 1986 and started to wear outrageous costumes and glasses again. I think it was the Leather Jackets Tour…he did one or two songs from that album.

Can’t narrow it to 1…
Sammy Hagar 2007. Had stage seats and he led the line to walk the stage. i was on end and I got to sing “Best of Both Worlds” with him. I couldn;t hear the monitor so i was 1/2 second off. Yes I’m the guy on the recording.

Van Halen 2004 Cin, OH. Golden Ring seats. Had a conversation with Ed throughout concert. At end I asked him for autograph, but his hands were shaking from playing. He left stage as rest were doing bow to crowd. Ed comes back with piles of pics and tosses them to us. Thanks to the filmers of that show as well.

Similar story on same tour. I got the stage seats for the Scranton show. I was at the end of the line with my gf in front of me and all of a sudden someone puts their arm on my shoulder and I’m like what the hell. I look back and it’s Sammy. My little moment in the spotlight singing with him.

Story #2 I never saw VH until the 1998 mini tour. I was always a casual fan and had the first album, 1984, and all the Sammy era CDs. I decided I wanted to go to the Philly show since I had never seen them before. I went to my local Ticketmaster outlet (Boscov’s Department Store) to get my tickets. They went onsale on a Friday afternoon at 3 pm. So I get there and the lady shows me the seating chart of the venue. I ask her if there’s any way to be able to pick out the section we can sit in. She says she cant help me there but she will start punching in for two tickets. She says I cant get you in the side sections but how is the front row? Yea that will work I said
8-O We were right in front of MA the whole show.
