@EddieTrunk: Exclusive news now breaking on my radio show! @ace_frehley @PeterCriss not being allowed to play with @KISSOnline at R&R HOF!
@EddieTrunk: The HOF made it clear they want the original band being inducted playing. Gene & Paul have declined to allow that as per Ace & Peter tonight
@EddieTrunk: Thanks to @ace_frehley for using my show to break that exclusive. Wish it was better news but it is what it is & as Ace said time to move on
@EddieTrunk: Ace also explained he needed to get this out now w/tix for HOF ceremony about to go on sale. Didn’t want people misled they will see reunion

What a bunch of crap. I have been a Kiss fan since Rock n Roll Over and the original band should be part of the ceremony. I know Gene and Paul own the name and band, but Ace, Peter, Eric Carr, Eric Singer and Bruce Kulick help build that band into the legend that has become Kiss, not just the two ego maniacs. Its like ACDC getting inducted, did they leave out Bon, NO!!!!
This was the great thing about Metallica, even after the way the band treated Jason Newsted and circumstances of Jason leaving….he was invited back for the HOF and asked to play with his original bandmates….class!!!

If they intend to wear make up, then it would be kind of strange to have

2 guys dressed as the spaceman & 2 guys dressed as the catman.

Maybe Peter & Ace can play Kiss tunes with some other guys (Sam & Mike ?) while

Gene & Paul watch from backstage !

Ace Frehley’s Kiss Hall of Fame Reunion Rules: ‘You Can’t Have Me and Tommy Both in Makeup’

by Matthew Wilkening December 22, 2013 11:29 AM

Former Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley says he’s happy to perform with his former bandmates at the upcoming Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony — as long as he’s the only one wearing his famous makeup.

Frehley reported that he had a “very nice,” congratulatory conversation with founding and current Kiss members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, but that they won’t hash out any details of their April 2014 Hall of Fame ceremony plans until after the holidays.

He did confirm that only the four original members of Kiss — and not Thayer, Singer, Eric Carr or Bruce Kulick, each of whom has logged over a decade in the band — will be formally inducted into the Hall, something Trunk has been reporting since the 2014 class was announced earlier this week.

Frehley also said that he knows “for a fact” that the Hall of Fame wants the original foursome to perform together in makeup and that he’s happy to do so, although he jokingly notes that he’d have to shave off his goatee and “lose 10 or 15 pounds” over the next few months.

He’s also cool with all former members participating — to a point. “You can’t have me and (current Kiss guitarist) Tommy (Thayer) both in makeup,’ Frehley declared on Eddie Trunk‘s annual Kissmas radio show. At another point he stated, “I don’t have a problem with Tommy and (current drummer) Eric (Singer) being there out of makeup if I’m in makeup, because they’re a big part of Kiss today. [But] they had nothing to do with the beginning of Kiss, or the designs or the costumes or the makeup… this is about the celebration of Kiss and how it all began and started, and it should be honoring the four original members.”

But again, he insists there’s room for everybody: “If those guys wanna come up and do ‘Rock and Roll All Nite’ with the whole cast of the show, you know, that would be a great thing. They deserve a little!”

I suspect there’s more to this story than meets the eye. Hard to say if we’ll ever know the truth of the matter.

I agree there is probably more to the story we will likely never hear … BUT … I agree that the original four, the ones that really WERE the band in many people’s eyes should be the band inducted. The other guys can join but having them all in make-up wouldn’t be right. Who knows.

If I’m not mistaken, you have to have been an original band member or you had to have been in the band for XX years in order to be eligible. In other words, if VH were just now getting inducted, Wolf wouldn’t become a member of the RRHOF. Although, I’m sure he could perform with the band.

Then again, both Ace and Peter have not been with the band for 25 years either. Is it the name or the members that need to be around for 25 years? Only Gene and Paul have been with the band that long.

EDIT:I see the note that original members are inducted…my error…

I never really “got” KISS but they have a handful of songs I enjoy. Paul Stanley had (has?) a great voice. It seems to be assuming a lot when the RRHOF and fans expect bands to drop everything and make nice for something that really happened 30 years ago. It’s nice to give them recognition but to just assume they’ll regroup and play together “for us” is a bit much. Speaking generally, many of these bands may have moved on decades ago.

The HOF seems to mean more to fans than the guys who are elected for it. Ritchie Blackmore said “honors don’t go on a depost slip.” A lot of guys probably feel the same way.
If you ever watched Gene Simmons show when it was on it shows he is all about the money.

For some people I’m sure you are correct but I don’t think that is necessarily the same for everyone. I believe Neil Peart of Rush said something during their acceptance speech like … we tried to pretend like this isn’t a big deal but it is …

Kiss to me is still the original foursome.
I always found it strange that Tommy and Eric took over the make up of Peter and Ace. To me it feels a little second hand and it gives them no identity within the band.
Why did they do so with Eric Carr and Vinnie Vincent??
Then they could al take the stage.

I think Gene and Paul don’t really want them to have their own unique persona (or as you describe “identity within the band”) – they like having them play the part, and that’s as far as they want them to go with it.

The identities of Ace & Peter are in the songs they wrote.

Their replacements are essentially doing a tribute to them every time they play a classic KISS song.
