Michael Anthony Still Has Painful Memories of David Lee Roth’s Butt
by Jeff Giles October 30, 2014 9:52 AM

It’s well known that David Lee Roth took issue with Eddie Van Halen‘s growing fondness for keyboards during the sessions for Van Halen‘s ‘1984‘ album. In fact, if Roth had gotten his way, former bassist Michael Anthony says the band never would have recorded its only No. 1 single.

The song in question, of course, is ‘Jump,’ which ended up being the album’s lead single. But initially, Anthony says Roth rejected it out of hand. “I remember Dave hearing ‘Jump’ and he did not want to do it,” he told Billboard. “He told Eddie, ‘You’re a guitar hero. You’re not a keyboard player. You need to play guitar.’”

Battles like that one helped lead to Roth’s 1985 exit from the lineup, and Anthony added that “the tension level started to rise” during the band’s 1984 tour — during which Roth’s larger-than-life stage persona rubbed more than a few people the wrong way.

“He’d do something to piss off a male fan, and then he’d say, ‘Hey buddy, after the show I’m going to f— your girl,’ and point right at them. And boy, sometimes some guys would get heated up for that,” Anthony laughed. “This is the guy that would do tours where he’d wear assless chaps, and I have to stand behind him while he’s looking that way. Some nights you want to just laugh, and other nights you want to go, ‘Oh, I don’t want to stand near this.’”

“AssLess Chaps” isnt his original Idea, there was nothing new about him…I have films of the Tubes in 1977 and the singer is wearing leather chaps during mondo bondage..at least Roth never wore a Leather Studded JockStrap on stage..Fee did that in 1978..plus had a fake dick poking out(I assume,It looked pretty real) during WPOD.all 3 of the guys in WASP went assless in 1984 and Lawless didnt have a strap covering his crack..pretty disgusting, actually…

You can say what you want about DLR ripping off others’ ideas, but I never saw Blackie Lawless or Fee Waybill in their assless pants in TIME magazine.

David Lee Roth, TIME’s Person of the Year 2014?

Van Halen lead singer among finalists for TIME’s 2014 Person of the Year?

According to a well-placed source, Van Halen lead singer David Lee Roth is leading the race to become Time magazine’s Person of the Year in 2014. But while the singer’s fans are thrilled with the news, many people hold a very different opinion.

Why not Roth for Person of the Year?

The list of nominees for Time magazine’s Person of the Year is always an eclectic mix of world leaders, pop culture icons, buzzworthy names, and human rights activists. The unexpected inclusion of the 60-year-old singer, as a 2014 nominee has therefore sparked controversy and debate.

“What makes Roth so important is the potential and influence he now has, rather than anything he has already done,” said a panelist who preferred to remain anonymous, adding that earlier this month, the singer have already been named ‘American Of The Year’ by some major American newspapers and even ‘Bloomington Citizen Of The Year’ by the readers of a local gazette in Bloomington (David Lee Roth’s hometown).

Social Reactions to TIME’s Person of the Year

A representative for the singer was not immediately available for comment, but the announcement generated immediate reaction on Twitter:

“#RothPOY. Logical choice though I wouldn’t have made the same one.”
— @TomMiller, 30 Oct 2014

“Great choice! Long overdue recognition for his talents. #LoveDavid Lee”
— @BarbaraHeyboer, 30 Oct 2014

“Past recipients include Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler … then why not David Lee Roth?”
— @TheClassicObserver, 30 Oct 2014

Could 2014 officially be the Year of David Lee Roth?

Still, TIME’s editors will make the final decision about who will grace the magazine’s cover as its 2014 Person of the Year.

UPDATE 31/10/2014 : This story seems to be false.
