Motley Crue Reportedly Recruits Alice Cooper for 2014 ‘Final’ Tour
by Dave Lifton January 17, 2014 5:56 AM

It appears that Motley Crue‘s long talked-about farewell tour will be announced soon. And as a bonus to fans, it seems the opening act will be one of their heroes, Alice Cooper.

Eddie Trunk broke the news last night (Jan. 16) on Twitter, with a post that included a picture of a tour poster which had Cooper listed as the “very special guest.” (The tweet has since been deleted.)

Blabbermouth is reporting that the tour dates will be announced at a press conference on Jan. 28 in Los Angeles. Above the band will be a banner with the rumored tour slogan, “RIP: All Bad Things Must Come to An End.” Later that day, the band will appear on the ABC late-night television program ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ where they will perform on an outdoor stage.

Motley Crue have been hinting about calling it quits since early 2013, delivering one more album and then embarking on a world tour for the next two years.

No dates for the tour are available at this time, but frontman Vince Neil told Billboard in 2013 that the tour would probably begin in the summer and extend into 2015. If true, you can expect worldwide dates, likely with additional openers TBA.

I liked the Crue for a long time but the last few Tours have lost me…Same set’s and Tommy looks like he would rather be any where else.

If they do this Tour with close to the same Set list and with no NEW music it will be a shame.
Vince and Nikki said a while ago there would be a full album of NEW music for the farewell tour…

Sixx discussed the subject during a recent interview with the Australian site TheMusic (via Bravewords), reiterating that in the immediate future, he wants the band to “finish our movie” — an adaptation of their oral history ‘The Dirt’ — “and put out a new album.”

The things that make it final is Mick’s health issues and Tommy not being interested in Rock Music any more..Think he is happy spinning records at night clubs.

I Loved the early Crue and even the Corobi experiment…..but these days I have pretty much grown tired of Vince and his poor attitude towards the band and overall love for himself. He seems to think he is still a great front man, IMO he has lost it! Nikki and his ego are embarassing and Tommy Lee’s lost interest in rock music (well put PT5150)….Seems like a money grab for 3/4 of them. Hard to believe thy have turned into what they are now. Those first two records and attitude are great!

The only one I still have 100% respect for and love his playing is Mick Mars. Still love him….I heard he is going to be on this season of That Metal Show. I look forward to seeing that.

I remember the Eagles joking on stage a few years ago … one guy says, “Welcome to the Eagles Farewell Tour … number three!”

And another guy steps to the mic and says, “Three? I thought this was number four. Oh wait … that’s next year’s tour!”

At least they have a sense of humor about it.

Yeah, I agree with King Edward – the only Crue member I really ever liked is Mick. Do we know how old he actually is? I saw them like 6 or more years ago and he could barely move then, but I guess he’s still out there rockin’.

I wonder how many tours are billed as a farewell tour by management rather than a band to sell more tix. I am surprised they didn’t call Van Halen’s 2004 tour a farewell tour.

As far as Crue goes I could care less that they are calling it quits. It’s about time. Aside from finding new ways to suspend his drum kit, Tommy has been phoning it in for years. The Girls Girls Girls tour IMO was their last good tour.

One of the most notorious bands in music is calling it a day. Motley Crue have announced a farewell tour with the legendary Alice Cooper serving as the opening act. Cooper and Motley Crue have never toured together before, and Alice says the tour will be “rock and roll at its most extreme.”
At a press conference today (Jan. 28), the band revealed details about the farewell trek and ultimate retirement. Mick Mars said, “It’s time for us to throw the towel in.” Band members said the farewell tour could take two years or more and described it as a “huge celebration.”
The first leg of dates have been revealed, and are listed below. Tickets for fan club members go on sale tomorrow (Jan. 29). VIP packages will be available Jan. 30, with the general on-sale for most shows on Friday, Jan. 31. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster and MotleyVIP.com.
Why now? Nikki Sixx said they want to go out on top: “We want to leave a legacy and have dignity. We want to call it a day and be proud.” To make sure it really would be their last tour, the band actually signed a Cessation of Touring Agreement at the press conference. “Everything must come to an end,” says drummer Tommy Lee. “We always had a vision of going out with a big f—ing bang and not playing county fairs and clubs with 1 or 2 original band members! Our job here is done!!!”
Other topics discussed at the press conference included an upcoming country tribute album, with artists like Florida Georgia Line, Cassidy Pope and LeeAnn Rimes singing Crue songs.
Jeff Tremaine (‘Bad Grandpa’), director of the movie ‘The Dirt,’ based on the autobiography of the band, also spoke about the progress of the film. Right now, they are working on getting the script right. Tremaine says his goal is to begin shooting the movie by June, but did not reveal any details on casting.
As far as their future plans after the tour wraps up, Vince Neil says he’ll continue in music and the restaurant business, Sixx will focus on Sixx A.M. and his radio show, Tommy Lee said he has some “big surprises,” but couldn’t elaborate. Guitarist Mick Mars said he has moved to Nashville and wants to finish up his solo album and write a book.
