Dutchie: The guy selling those guitars over at the Links goes through more instruments than Charlie Sheen goes through porn stars and strippers… I’m surprised he has kept them this long…

I hear you. If I remember correctly within 1 month of buying them he was looking to sell them.

If I didn’t already have the W/B and Y/B striped series along with a custom made Franky I might take him up on it.

VAiN: Nice, that’s a great deal if you can make it happen. I know they’ll come down a little bit after some time, but I wanted it NOW :D I figure the no sales tax + free shipping help offset some of that… Now the waiting starts…

When the striped series came out I jumped on 2 of them right away too. I don’t regret it one bit either. At the time I had more cash to play with. Now with the new house I’ve gotta hold back a little. We’ll see how much self control I have once they hit the streets. With the striped series it took a few months to get them but luckily I only had to pay a $100 deposit to place the order and was charged the balance once it shipped. I used King Guitar in Rhode Island.

Dutchie: Congrats on getting one VAiN. I plan on getting one as soon as I can find a shop that has one in stock and will ship it to OZ.

There are a few already in the UK, but the postage is a bit to high…

You all must get killed on shipping down there.. Do you pay a premium for instruments there?

I bought two of the Charvel striped series when they came out and they played like shit. I was really disappointed in them and sold them fairly soon afterward. The prices were outrageous for those things. When these came out, I wasn’t interested until a friend who works at a music store near Detroit told me they have one in stock. I went and played it through a 5150III half stack at the store and was really impressed with it. Plus I got it at his price which made it even better. I have the B/W and B/Y and a homemade Frankie replica and I’m planning to pick up one of these Unchained models as well. I’d love to grab one of the striped Wolfies, but I doubt I’ll see one around here.

I worked for a couple of amp companies and its not just the shipping they also have to pay an import duty tax. When we shipped to european distributors we shipped the cabinets and speakers seperatly. Because they were not fully assembled the duty was much less because it created work for the locals to assemble.

And then some…
Instruments are ridiculously priced down here, although its not as bad as it once was. When the EVH EBMM’s were released, they were around $1300 in the US (from memory). I paid $3395 for mine from a shop here and that was 20 years ago…
videoman is right. Import tax on anything over $1000. If I bought a guitar for $1001, there would be an extra couple hundred bucks on top of it for import tax. The more over $1000 the more tax you pay. A lot of people have their guitars sent over in parts. Send the body & necks separately, because its so much cheaper…. But then they get you in postage.
Its amazing how much the postage varies from seller to seller. I’ve bought a couple of guitars from the US and the postage has been around $100, give or take. I was looking at a White Ibanez JS 100 (I LOVE the White JS’s) on ebay this week, and it was at a decent price, but when I asked about postage, he wanted $300 to send it here… Not gonna happen… Sometimes the postage here is more than the item you want to buy….

The EVH Striped series are around $1500 AUD here but the Unchainded guitar probably wont be here until Oct/Nov, judging by the time the first ones got here last year.

Just pulled the trigger on a Unchained Circles guitar… Should be here in a couple weeks.

I made a few phone calls to a few local shops here today and they said they wont be here until late Sept, early Oct, and that was just a “might be”… Local price $1749 AUD…

I just saved myself about $700…

Photos will come…

I’ve been checking ebay & US guitar shops web pages every day for the past two weeks. A lot of places have them but wont (or not permitted) to send them to OZ. A shop in Texas has 18 in stock… A lot of shops in the UK have them too.

I hope yours is with you soon. Look forward to seeing some photos too.
