Then Jack White released “Lazaretto,” Weezer dropped ”Everything Will Be Alright in the End” and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers unveiled “Hypnotic Eye.” That same set of naysayers proclaimed the album over in 2013 and we got ace LPs from Kanye West, Vampire Weekend and Lorde. Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean and Mumford & Sons made impressive long-form statements in 2012. Adele, Paul Simon and Florence & the Machine championed the album’s depth and breadth in 2011. Yes, singles command the most attention (as they have since “Rock Around the Clock”). But artists want to release albums. And they’re going to release some grand ones in 2015. After a month of Christmas carols and week of nothing new, finally we see fresh music on the horizon. … New Van Halen, TBA — David Lee Roth said the band is hard at work. He said that in 2012 and 2013 and 2014. What does this mean for Van Halen? It means Roth and Eddie are working on the greatest party rock album since “1984.” Or that they haven’t recorded a thing and Eddie is prepping a tour with Sammy Hagar. Jim was saying how he would really like to get Eddie on the show and the only way that might happen is if Wolfgang is there with Eddie. Then he said Van Halen was working on a new album and going to tour next year. Wonder where he heard that info? If true, Awesome!! Im ready. It was actually Wolf’s idea for the album to be a collection of our B-sides along with three reworked songs, which would be new to our audience. Instead of the “Best Of” it would be the “B’s Of”—you know, songs like “Drop Dead Legs,” “Girl Gone Bad”… It would be a record of our more hardcore songs and none of the pop stuff. That was the initial plan for this album, but the deeper we dug, the more we found. At the same time I was writing new songs. Dave got very excited about that. We all did. We ended up recording demos for 35 songs. All of those songs were ready to go, and we were able to play them all. B’s Of on the way..
