Cool link. I listened to both parts. Those were the days. Van Halen came to town and it was an event from the minute the show was announced and the local rock stations promoted it like crazy for weeks leading up to the show. I used to have a bunch of the radio promos from WRIF in Detroit for the ’82, 84, 86 and MOR tour in ’88. Wish I still had those old cassettes.

Totally.. the hype on the radio promos were enough to get you totally pumped up for the show. Huge event when VH rolled thru town, especially when they were hitting some cities for 3-4 nights in a row. Love the radio promos.

I remember the hype for the 1984 tour, since MTV was going to be there with their Lost Weekend winner. It seemed like every day they had “Rock Blocks” of 3 or 4 VH tunes in a row, several times a day. I can also remember when new albums would come out, they would play the whole thing, start to finish. That was how I got Diver Down before the LPs actually made it to our music store. I recorded it to cassette off the radio. Good times…
