I know there are some musicians on this site, so I decided to start this Original Music & Home Recoding thread to showcase our talents and, hopefully, get some helpful advice along the way..

I’ll start – I’ve started a project with a female singer/songwriter who has an amazing powerful soulful/bluesy sound. We have started writing and recording and this is our first original. I record everything using my iMac running Logic 9. I play the guitar and bass parts and use drum loops from Beta Monkey (http://www.betamonkeymusic.com). I’ve been running the guitar direct into the iMac, but I’ve recently picked up on of these: http://apogeedigital.com/products/one-mac.php

It functions as a pre-amp with an instrument and microphone breakout cable included and has a very nice built-in mic. We used the built-in mic for the vocals on this track and I’m very pleased with the result. We’ll be testing it with a Sure SM58 soon as well.

So, here’s the first of, hopefully, many to come: Science Mind https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/25477321/Science_Mind.mp3

I look forward to your thoughts and contributions! Have some originals? Post them up!

Do to overwhelming demand… (this thread was only buried 7 pages deep)

We have named the project/band and started a Facebook page and a Soundcloud page…

Hey Vain,
Just listened to Science Mind. While I was expecting something more rockin’, I think the sound quality of your recording is really good. I wish I could make fake drums do all those things! I liked your solo the best as the vocals didn’t really knock me out. Overall I’m just jealous you’re in a band and making new music! Nice work and I hope you have some success with this venture.

Thanks! This is done in my living room with Logic. The key to the drums is the loops – they’re real drums recorded in a good studio by a session guy. I just piece them together and bam! It’s pretty easy once you get the hang of it… For now the ‘band’ is me and the singer/writer.. we’re focusing on getting 10-12 songs demo’d up and then we’ll try to recruit a drummer & bass player and take it from there. I’m having fun learning the software and flashing out old demos from the early 2000′s..
