Maybe I’m forgetting something obvious, but where does he use a Super Octave? And of all things, a Boss! Talk about a tone sucker.

Good question… I’m not quite sure where Ed would use the Super Octave, really.

I would imagine he’s got it in a true by-pass loop, so as it doesn’t kill his tone when he’s not using it.

Ed’s used the Boss octave since the early 90′s ‘think Spanked’ …one of the reasons the old boss one’s sell for a good price on fleabay

As Chris says everything will be relayed or looped. The board was built by Dave Friedman he also tinkered with Ed’s old marshall along with a few others over it’s lifetime

Pedal breakdown…

MXR M234 Analog Chorus
Custom Mute Box
Dunlop EVH EVH95 Wah
Boss OC-3 Super Octave
MXR EVH117 EVH Flanger
MXR EVH Phase 90
G-LAB PB-1 Power Supply
6 loop bypass switch
4 loop bypass switch

Oh, I’ve not had chance to work out where he uses it but if you watch the boots Ed does have a habit of switching things on when he feels like and not so much as the song requires it (thank god he ditched that sustainer pup, arrrgh!).

On top of the amp it looks like a old school Peterson Strobe Tuner , you never know what Ed has the Boss sitting there for , as we all know now for many years he had a pick up in Frankie that never worked I wonder how many people bought that pick up and slapped it in and wired it up just because ed had it placed in there maybe that the case with the Boss

I would imagine so, but I was more concerned about his tone while he IS using it

If I remember right, the Super Octave is used for Unchained (solo & end, although he doesn’t use it for the solo live) and the beginning of China Town (not used live b/c Wolfie plays that part with a capo).

I was surprise to see Ed has his Gain at 1 o’clock on channel 3. I have the new 5150 III 50w head and the gain on channel 3 is insane, especially once you pass 11 o’clock…
However, I also heard Ed uses channel 3 only for solos… ?
