So humor me on this one. In my opinion, there is one person that makes the band Van Halen, that is Ed. Ultimately, you can try to replicate it but imitating his sound is damn close, but never perfect. That being said harmonics and lead singer played a huge roll in the Van Halen history. So I want to present a what if:

Van Halen goes on the road with Ed Al Wolf and Mr. X. Mr. X was found on you tube the same way Journey found their front man who sounded like Steve Perry. In our case, close your eyes and you would swear Diamond Dave is back from the 70′s / 80′s. Would you go see Van Halen?

I still would, but it is a horrible idea.

In life you have to make decisions. Either you’re with something or against it.

Black or White. Simple. No sticky shades of grey.

My beef is with fence riders playing both sides of the fence.

When I clicked the VHND and saw that 2004 airplane picture I almost puked in disgust.

Both Greg and Jeff have been reposting the bullshit rumour bullshit lately. I find it deeply disappointing coming from them to jump on the bullshit bandwagon.

Morals and Ethics are important.

If you know something but aren’t at liberty to speak about it then so be it.

Otherwise leave the bullshit to the Blabbermouths.

I have been a member since the early days here and took a long break because of all the negativity that exits. You have to be one side or the other which drives me nuts. It is possible to like Dave and Sammy, and even Gary. But some have to make it a personal attack, I don’t know why. We have selective amnesia when it comes to Dave, like he never left the band in 1985, and he was brutal to the guys back then, but Sammy gets no such pass to many here.

I hope that the negativity calms down and respect comes back.

I have been on this board since the first year…and the negativity that surrounds this place is thick. Its one of the reasons I do not post much, unless it has to do with vinyl, and have been flamed recently for that to. I like the two eras of the band, both Dave and Sammy (so worried that I was going to get negativity just on the order I placed the names in). Not a huge fan of the Cherone era, but it found some followers….hey good for them. I would like to believe this board is for VAN HALEN, the band, any era……………

I was surprised to read this, because my experience here has been different. I come here because I find it to not be so negative. VHTrading, at least in my humble opinion, is certainly less negative than many of the other Van Halen websites out there. But truth be told, there will always be conflict, because Van Halen fans tend to be very passionate about what they like and don’t like. It comes with the territory of being a Van Halen fan on the internet these days. Having said that, it doesn’t excuse anyone from being a jerk. But hey, what do I know? I just come here to watch the party.

I agree… I think of this site as a pretty neutral place… don’t see the VH arguments show up here too much (compared to the other VH sites)

No YouTube search needed…. If Dave retires, which he probably should… there is already a perfect DLR clone out there, who has already proved his ability to sing, and perform.

The poor folks play for keeps down here…They’re the living dead. Nobody rules these streets at night like Van Halen!!

Sammy Hagar explains why he tweeted Eddie Van Halen last month
Part of the reason Sammy Hagar sent a tweet to Eddie Van Halen last month wishing him a happy birthday was the recent deaths of David Bowie and Glenn Frey.
Sammy Hagar says, “It just makes you stop and think that, you know, with my relationship with Eddie Van Halen and stuff that’s always been in the toilet, it makes you say, ‘I don’t want to be buried with any regrets or bad vibes like that.’ It makes you want to be just friends with everybody and say, ‘Hey look, forget it.’ Even if you don’t want to be in a band together, just let’s be friends. No more enemies for me. You don’t want to go to your grave with enemies. So that’s what it’s done for me. It woke me up and said, ‘no more enemies.’ And before I die I won’t have any if I have my way.”

ModelCitizen: Please. So many Roth songs that would crush live.

House of Pain. Stay Frosty. Sinners Swing. Etc

I feel the same way.. I have to assume it’s Dave who doesn’t want to relearn the songs.. from what I see the VH band is ready to play just about anything. It really is a head-scratcher.

I’m right there with ya.. I can’t stand sam or his watered-down version of VH… How anyone can claim things like ‘musical maturity’ then read any of the lyrics is beyond me. Whatever.. plenty of people like Journey.. same concept. Anyway, the Roth Army welcomes you, swing on by – we have punch.
