VIDEO: Steve Vai on touring with David Lee Roth
Just how wild was life on the road? Find out…

by Simon Bradley (Guitarist)

Following on from our video excerpt in which he discusses the iconic For The Love Of God, here’s a second clip from Guitarist magazine’s exclusive video interview with Steve Vai. Here he lets slip a highly amusing yet slightly disturbing story from his days touring with none other than David Lee Roth.

I sure wish Steve would write a full tilt book about everything but as he stated he would not . He seems to be a well grounded person from the latest interviews he has had

A book from him would be great, one from Carmine Appice would be very insightful also. But both have stated they would not write a tell all book now or in the future.

I’d like to know the truth behind why Steve left Dave. It’s too bad Dave couldn’t have held Steve and Billy together for that band. I remember during those years, that maybe Dave was an asshole, and Billy, and Steve just couldn’t work with him.

I remember Billy saying he left because he didn’t like the direction of the music, but that could have just been bullshit.

The poor folks play for keeps down here…They’re the living dead. Nobody rules these streets at night like Van Halen!!
