Gun control needed.

I just don’t understand what would make a person want to do something like this. My heart breaks for these kids and families that have to deal with all the loved ones lost. I’m hugging my kids a little tighter tonight for sure.

As for gun control….that wouldn’t do anything, IMO. If people want to kill, they will find a way to kill…whether it be a gun, knife, bomb, bow & arrow, baseball bat or a broken beer bottle. Not sure what the answer is to prevent horrible acts like this from happening again. I guess we are getting to the point where we need metal detectors and armed guards at all public places….

This happened about 30 minutes from my town. Totally shocking and sickening.

Yeah, gun control only stops the good guys from defending against these assholes. The bad guys will always find a way to get a gun. Look at Mexico, guns are illegal there.

I’m sick of hearing about gun control. Criminals will always get guns. But heres what bothers me. When my son goes to buy Claritin D for his allergies he has to show an i.d. If he tries to buy it again within 7 days at another pharmacy he is flagged and they wont sell it to him. Yet he can go buy a few hundred rounds of ammunition every day and no one knows about it. I cannot believe the government cannot have a data base for ammunition. If someone is buying hundreds of rounds they aren’t going hunting. Also if more people concealed and carried guns these crazy shooters could be stopped by an average person who is trained to use a gun for self defense and lives might be saved.
Illinois is one of the only states that does not allow conceal and carry. Yet the south side of Chicago has become a daily killing field where innocent kids are being shot every day.
Time for our politcal leaders to wake up and allow conceal and carry with proper training and monitor the sale of ammunition.

Criminals will always get guns, that is true. But this guy sounds like he was mentally ill, and got the guns from his mother, who had four hand guns. Why someone needs four hand guns, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition, that doesn’t make any sense to me.

Agreed Videoman……

First off, my thoughts and prayers go out to the families in this horrible thing. I can’t even imagine. I hugged my children with my wife last night for over an hour.

As for gun control and why someone would need four handguns….. I legally own many firearms…. Why? Because I enjoy collecting, shooting at the local range and exercising my right to bear arms in this country … just as people enjoy their right to freedom of speech. It’s one of our constitutional rights and without the 2nd amendment our first amendment would never have been possible. It’s teaching our society that guns are not bad…. it’s the people that are bad. Guns don’t kill, they save lives. I am a certified firearms instructor and have been in law enforcement / security for 19 years and teach firearms safety for citizens to purchase firearms. CT has the 3rd strictest gun control laws in the country. We have enough gun control already in this country. What we need to do is figure out how to keep them out of the hands of these whack jobs. Did anyone see the horrible incident in China where all those people were stabbed to death? There were no guns involved…. are we going to ban knives? Of course not. Baseball bats and shovels? of course notThe tool is not the problem, but people just cant seem to figure this out.

People have a right to defend themselves and their families and incidents like this make me feel more inclined to “legally carry” my firearm. When seconds count, the cops are only minutes away. The criminals will always get guns and this awful incident happened in a “gun free” zone. So what does that mean? It means that only law abiding citizens will follow that rule and the others who wish to inflict harm will not. People need to remember that the places with the strictest gun laws have the worse gun crimes around: MA, CT, CA, NY, Chicago etc….. the list goes on and on. Not to mention countries that have completely removed guns from their citizens. Guess what – the criminals still have them. Situations like this one though, are a little different than your average gun crime. However, I don’t believe stripping people of the right to protect themselves is the answer.

This is a much more deep rooted issue than more gun control needed. Our country needs to figure out how to not make a knee jerk reaction and get down to the REAL problem which I believe is the breaking down of family values and morals. I feel that too much cell phone, facebook and online gaming has turned some of these people into mindless robots. Of course, taking away the internet is not the answer. But this country is going in the wrong direction for some reason. Restricting everyone from guns will NOT fix or solve deep rooted issues like this. If gun control is needed, it is not to keep law abiding citizens from their 2nd amendment right to defend themselves and their families; it’s to keep them out of the hands of people like this that have mental issues.

I am very passionate about my right to defend my family and myself and I am an avid shooter and firearms educator. With all the home invasions and awful, awful crimes today, I frankly can’t see how someone would not want to “safely” own a firearm and have the ability to have a chance to defend himself if attacked, mugged, invaded or if they found themselves in a situation where someone was shooting and they had no other option than waiting for the cops to arrive after the damage was done. Shooting at the range and collecting firearms is fun. It’s been in my family for generations and I plan to keep it that way. Both my Kids (13 and 8 years old) have been to the range to shoot firearms, and they know how to do so in a safe manner and they enjoy it. Education is key.

I promised myself I was not going to get into a gun rights debate and I am not….. I will not respond to any more gun rights comments, but I had to take a second and express my feelings that it’s SOOOO much more deep rooted than a gun control problem. And I really, really hope this country takes the time to come up with a solution that puts us on the right path to reduce horrible incidents like this and begin becoming more socially in touch with our younger generation so they are not just mindless machines that exist solely on facebook, cellphones, video games and movies. Is that possible? Man I really hope so… I really do.

Once again, I am so incredibly sick to my stomach over this and can’t even fathom how I would be reacting if my family was affected by this. I really can’t. My thoughts and prayers for everyone involved and our Country as a whole……

100% agree Rob. I dont know what I am more sick of….Hearing bout this incident, the last incident, all the crys for MORE gun laws or just all the horrific acts against kids that take place EVERY FUCKING DAY in the world. Taking away the rights of law abiding Americans will never be the answer & WILL NEVER STOP criminals, sickos, mentally ill & just downright STUPID people from doing bad things…..

Every time something happens like this everyone gets bent out of shape about how scared they are because their kids are unsafe at school…If you think about it your kids have more of a chance of getting killed in a wreck on the bus ride to school or in YOUR OWN CAR in a wreck on the way home than they do of ever experiencing a school shooting. How many kids are being sexually molested RIGHT NOW, how many kids are being beaten for no reason, how many kids are locked in dog cages with no food….We need more laws against that shit…….

It’s been happening for a long time . . .

The Bath School disaster is the name given to three bombings in Bath Township, Michigan, on May 18, 1927, which killed 38 elementary school children, two teachers, four other adults and the bomber himself; at least 58 people were injured. Most of the victims were children in the second to sixth grades (7–11 years of age) attending the Bath Consolidated School. Their deaths constitute the deadliest mass murder in a school in U.S. history and the third-deadliest non-military massacre in U.S. history, behind 9/11 and the Oklahoma City bombing.

The bomber was school board treasurer Andrew Kehoe, 55, who died in a car bomb he set off after he drove up to the school as the crowd gathered to rescue survivors from the burning school.

On the morning of May 18, Kehoe murdered his wife by beating her to death, then set his farm buildings afire. As fire fighters arrived at the farm, an explosion devastated the north wing of the school building, killing many schoolchildren. Kehoe used a detonator to ignite dynamite and hundreds of pounds of pyrotol which he had secretly planted inside the school over the course of many months. As rescuers started gathering at the school, Kehoe drove up, stopped, and detonated a bomb inside his fragmentation-filled vehicle with his Winchester rifle, killing himself and the school superintendent, and killing and injuring several others. During rescue efforts searchers discovered an additional 500 pounds (230 kg) of unexploded dynamite and pyrotol planted throughout the basement of the school’s south wing. Kehoe apparently had intended to blow up and destroy the whole school.

I tell you what Matt….. you do bring up a good point. It makes me sick to think of what my kids are going to have to go through as time goes on and they get to be our age if this world does not take one MAJOR turn for the better. I feel so bad for them and I know many people who choose not to have kids today because of that. You bring up a good point bro.

As far as my guns being locked up….. yes they are, securely in a safe and my wife and I are the only ones that have access to it. But I think my point might have been missed…. education is key… as a certified firearms instructor it is my duty to educate my children and other kids who come with their parents to become educated on firearms. I don’t go looking for them but when they come to me. I now have a duty to ensure that they handle them in a safe manner. With education comes knowledge and with knowledge comes wisdom. People spend so much time today teaching kids that guns are bad. That’s all well and good until or if the kid gets old enough and cocky enough to say, “I want to know what this gun stuff is all about,” because all they know is what they see in “Call Of Duty” and other video games and then they go out and do something incredibly horrific or stupid and end up hurting themselves or others due to not being educated or having training. When you educate kids on the safety aspects and involve them in the many fun and enjoyable events out there like the Appleseed Shoots for kids, turkey shoots on the weekends in the fall, or just plain joining a gun club and going target practicing on a weekend; and having a good time like I did with my Dad back in the ’70s and ’80s, they become educated and the “taboo” aspect of guns goes away and there is no mystery anymore. If anything, they develop an appreciation for the sport and end up enjoying it, and as they get older, they begin to understand the true purpose of the 2nd amendment and choose to exercise it or not. My 13 and 8 year olds could walk by a gun laying on the table and not even bat an eye at it. Because they are adjusted to being around guns and are not afraid of them, but have an incredible respect for them at the same time and it’s not a mystery to them. Of course, I don’t leave guns laying around the house, but my point is that they are not taboo to them. They know they can go to the range with me anytime they want. Both of them have gone before, but really don’t care about shooting much these days. I think that’s just fine, but I feel better knowing as they get older, they will come to me if they want to go shoot, and not to some uneducated kid that is going to do something stupid. Matter of fact, my 13 year old son and I will be watching a movie and he will go, “Dad look at that idiot on tv with his finger in the trigger. And he is not even on target ready to fire.” :)

Again, I grew up with guns, was a Cop for years, and now even though I am no longer a Cop, I remain a firearms enthusiast, teacher and supporter of our constitutional right to bear arms. I don’t expect everyone out there to want to own a gun or want to be able to defend themselves, but I do feel better when more people out there know that they have the RIGHT (not privilege) to do so if they choose. Because if done so in a safe and respectful manner, it’s really a lot of fun. I can’t tell you how many women and men who have never fired a gun before in their lives left my class and were like, “Wow … this is fun and it’s not as bad as everyone says…” They are not out shooting up schools, movie theaters or malls. They are protecting themselves and their families from “sick” demented turds like the jerk in Newtown.
Makes me wonder where a kid / guy like this went wrong you know. What happened that actually made him come to where he felt the needed to go kill his Mom and then all those poor little kids? I can only speculate that this crazy world we live in and the technology that we have at our fingertips just continues to “dumb us down” as a society and at a young age they just take a real bad turn to something as horrific as this incident.

Again I can preach about guns and our 2nd amendment rights all day, but when it comes down to it, there are a bunch of parents that will not have children to give Christmas gifts to this year and that about makes me sick and want to cry. I can’t even imagine what they are going through. I only hope that no one on this site was personally affected by this incident. I really do.

“If anything in this life is certain, if history has taught us anything, it is that you can kill anyone.” Michael Corleone in Godfather part 2. That line is very true and the killer doesn’t need a gun to do it. If someone trained with a gun was in that school, or in the movie theater, those crack pots could have been taken out and maybe saved some lives. By the time police arrive the damage is already done. It’s sad to say, but conceal and carry in today’s sick world can save lives. The key, like Rob said, is education and training. A psycho doesn’t need a gun to kill, so all this talk of gun control solving today,s problems is a bunch of political rhetoric and bullshit.

I agree with Rob again……..but then again I don’t on 1 thing. First of all, no matter what is declared illegal in this country or world for that matter, someone will always find a way around it or still do it. Drugs, guns, fake ids, DUI. It still happens. I understand that teaching kids and educating them is important, but the thought of a child that young holding a gun kind of scares of or doesn’t agree with me. Then again, if no one is around and the kids need to step up to the plate, then I understand. Just as long as the guns are handled properly, I’m cool with that.
