I have dropbox links if you prefer getting these that way – PM me and specify DVD or blu-ray. I wanted to get this mixed version out a long time ago, but I just couldn’t quite ever make it happen. Fortunately, it’s now not only available for the first time, it’s available in blu-ray (something that wouldn’t have been possible back in 2007) and this version includes an audio recording (MrBakeman) that wasn’t available until recently.

I only have one request, that you don’t take these files and post them on other torrent sites. I have many shows to upload. I will upload, let them get seeded by others and after a majority have downloaded the files completely, remove my files so I can seed something new. I prefer to manage my own shows on DIME and The Traders Den. I will upload to other sites when I wish to for select shows. Thanks for honoring my wishes in advance.

This is “CBG 21st Century Master Video Series Vol. 26”.

After going to opening night in Charlotte for the reformed Van Halen with David Lee Roth finally back in the band, we were on our way for the 2nd show of the tour in Greensboro after a day off. Opening night was everything we wanted it to be. It was just great to see David and Eddie back together on stage. The place in Charlotte is one of those newer arenas that is very large and open with levels of luxury suites encased in glass. Greensboro on the other hand is one of those historical arenas built in 1959. The seats are tucked in close to the sides of the stage and around the back of the stage. The rows are close together and there is smaller space between the rows. The air conditioning doesn’t cool the upper level as well. But it has character. Van Halen played the same arena on the 1981 Fair Warning Tour, the 1982 Diver Down Tour and the 1984 Tour. So there is history with them in this exact building. In fact, there are three fine audio recordings of those 80′s shows that were posted on these sites in the past. So, right before VH hit the Northeast and Midwest, they had a date in old Greensboro in the Southeast.

The show was again pretty well sold. Guitard and myself both had already filmed in Charlotte and had that show under our belts. Other friends from around the country also came to opening night in Charlotte. I ended up talking to Guitard on the phone that night after the Charlotte show but we didn’t meet up afterwards. I was hanging out with some other common friends after the show who came in town just for opening night and we said our goodbyes and figured they all left town and went home after the Charlotte show.

So, I went to the Greensboro show with MrBakeman and entered the Greensboro Coliseum on the right side of the arena and got the whole show with relatively no issues. I just had to move one time a few sections but got repositioned quickly. In the second song, I’m The One (Show Your Love), there was an emotional point for Ed when the crowd was cheering real loud and he ended up having tears run down his face. The playing seemed tighter, they seemed more relaxed on stage, and it was high energy from the start. I really liked the Greensboro show because it had that old school feel and the band played loose like the pressure of opening night and the press reviewing them was over.

Afterwards, I somehow exited the arena on the back side opposite to where I entered and ended up running into Guitard on the back side of the arena. We started talking and as it turned out, he shot the show from the other side of the arena. But even more of a coincidence, we both had the same HD Sony camcorder, the HDR-HC1, which was like a year old at the time. From alongside that arena brick wall, we struck a friendship that will undoubtedly last forever. The funny thing is, as I write this, which by the time this is posted will be almost 6 months from now, I was just at the same arena for another show last week and as I somehow went out the back side of the arena again (only did that twice ever at that place) and called Guitard to tell him I am alongside that same wall of the arena where we ran into each other and met for the first time. Love this hobby for times like that! So we were both psyched to finally meet and that we both just filmed the show in HD and were opposite each other. Turns out it took a little longer than I thought to mix it correctly. At that time, Guitard was not as experienced using Vegas Pro to mix multiple angles. I used to use the analog MX-Pro mixer and mix shows live as they played and manually switched between the two angles with different wipes and fades. I did mix the show on that MX-Pro mixer but we never did anything with it. So after almost 9 years, Guitard has mixed the show on the computer directly and processed the DVDs and Blu-ray correctly for everyone’s viewing pleasure. Also, MrBakeman has graciously provided his outstanding audio of the show that was done close up to the stage for an alternate audio. There is a second alternate audio as well that is used as audio 2 on the production. Nice to have Dave and Ed back together. Even better to start a lifelong friendship in this hobby with Guitard at the same time! Enjoy the Mighty Van Halen in the old Greensboro building one more time! CBG5150 Posted to DIME 2016-09-06.

On kind of a whim, I contacted JimVH (of BTB) a few weeks before the first show and asked if he wanted to split some expenses (hotel room, rental car, etc.). He said he was going to the show with two other friends (from his high school days) and they had two rooms booked, so I could room with one of his friends. So I flew up to North Carolina for the Charlotte show and met up with those three guys. I had just gotten hired for a new job that was supposed to start on Monday 1 October – so the timing was perfect! Or so I thought … Just before I was going to leave for Charlotte, my new employer insisted that I meet with a client for an hour on Thursday (the day between shows). So I had to fly back home for a one hour meeting that turned out to be a “we just wanted to meet and say hello real quick before you start next week.” On top of the additional costs for that, I missed out on spending time with some other hardcore VH fans that you don’t get to meet and spend time with very often. But as CBG noted – we both shot both shows (in HD, no less), so it all turned out well in the end. Other than the first two shows, are there any other blu-rays out there from this tour?

I remember years ago you saying there would be a possible Blu-ray version, if you could get hooked up with another person. That other person must have been CBG.

Sending a PM for the Blu-ray.

Thanks to all involved in making shows like this possible!!!

Anyone have a preference on which audio is better?

I can’t figure out how to switch the audio, and I am not sure which audio version I am hearing.

jroundy: audio option #1: (MrBakeman) master recording; unknown equipment; 1,536 LPCM audio
audio option #2: (Dickweed) master recording; unknown equipment; 1,536 LPCM audio

You should be able to hit the “Audio” button on your remote. You should then be able to choose between the two options, with #1 being MrBakeman and #2 being Dickweed. If you do nothing, you should be hearing #1.

I am not burning these to disk… so thanks, but there is no remote.

Okay, so what software are you using to play the files?

I tried Windows Media Player… which worked except I couldn’t figure out how to switch audio tracks… the audio seemed a bit distant.

I also tried VLC media player, and couldn’t figure out how to switch audio tracks… and the audio had a lot more bottom end.

I am using the Blu-ray video and not the DVD video.
