Beginning May 4, the group is giving away a limited-edition seven-inch single of ‘She’s the Woman’ with the purchase of their new album, ‘A Different Kind of Truth.’ But there is a slight catch. You can’t just walk into any CD joint or big-box store and get the single. The band is only offering it at select independent record stores. In other words, Van Halen are extending Record Store Day beyond the third Saturday in April. Collectors can also enter Ultimate Classic Rock’s contest for the chance to win a special red, 180-gram heavyweight vinyl copy of ’A Different Kind of Truth,’ which also features reprints of David Lee Roth‘s handwritten lyrics. The contest ends May 20, 2012. Until the single comes out, you’ll have to be content to watch the new video for ‘She’s the Woman’ below over and over again. It features footage of the band performing the song, both onstage and in rehearsals, on their current tour. Last week, the band extended the tour by announcing 18 more dates from July to mid-August. I’ll have to keep calling and driving there it seems. I called the next closest location, also no dice. They had the single, but not the LP it is given away with. Maybe tomorrow.
