Pepsi returns as Super Bowl halftime sponsor
Posted by Mike Florio on June 25, 2012, 1:18 PM EDT

Well, that didn’t take long.

With Bridgestone bailing on the sponsorship of the Super Bowl halftime show, Pepsi has returned, according to Terry Lefton of SportsBusiness Journal.

Pepsi reportedly hopes to use the sponsorship to link “its sports and music platforms,” via what the marketing types call a “season long music and sports platform that could be leveraged at retail throughout the season and would culminate in the usual Super Bowl halftime appearance by a major musical act.”

In English, this apparently means that Pepsi and the halftime act and the NFL will work together to craft a multi-platform strategy for hyping the event, and along the way getting maximum exposure for the Pepsi brand.

For the privilege of sponsoring the Super Bowl halftime show — and, from the sound of it, having greater say in who the act will be — Lefton reports that Pepsi will pay “upward of” $7 million per year.

So if the speculation that Van Halen will be named the Super Bowl XLVII halftime act is accurate, count on David Lee Roth to invite viewers during the show to “have a Coke and a smile.”

A really creepy, weird smile.

Maybe Dave can learn “Right Now” and they can do a throw back to the “Crystal Pepsi” ads. LOL!

Dave can’t even remember the words to songs he’s been singing for 40 years never mind learn a new one. LOL!

I am probably one of the very, very few who would love to hear Dave sing a Sammy era song. I think he could do an awesome job. I would actually also love to hear Eddie play one of the Vai tunes from Eat Em And Smile. I think it would be very cool to hear the new take on the tune. I doubt I’d ever hear it. I don’t think Dave wants to sing a Sammy song or Eddie wants to play a Vai song but it could be unbelievably cool.

So the rumor is flying that VH will play halftime.
What ere your thoughts for the set?

My idea:
Stage starts dark and Ed starts off with Eruption (nothing else added, just Eruption) because a 1.5 minute solo would be perfct.
Then BAM right into “Every Body Wants Some” – just like the album
Followed by new tattoo
Let Al kick out intro then into Hot for Teacher
Possible a new song here or another classic.
End it with Jump.

Thoughts????

I think it would consist mostly of classics in a medley. Something like this:
Hot for Teacher
Eruption
You Really Got Me
Aint Talkin’ ‘Bout Love
Pretty Woman
Panama
Unchained
Jump

This isn’t exactly what I would want to see, however, these are the more popular CVH songs. I feel they would be better received with a world wide audience.

It’s gonna be 15-20 minutes…so…

Eruption
Unchained
Beautiful Girls
Hot For Teacher (or Panama)
Stay Frosty
Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love

Fuck JUMP! This band does not need to be remembered for some bubblegum pop piece of shit! It’s all about guitar and attitude…not neccesarily in that order! ;) I think about what Springsteen did cutting short Born To Run, so he could suck that piece-of-shit Obama’s dick and play Working on a Nightmare…in it’s entirety…and I wanna vomit (as much now as then)! The guys need to put ALL their energy onstage…and not have some asshole bitching about whether keys are piped in or not! And enough of the fucking covers already…if I NEVER hear YRGM or (Oh) PW again, it’ll be fine with me!

If they even have a chance at playing the halftime show….

They will play a set of “top hits” from the DLR era. Which means: YRGM, Jump, Panama, HFT…..and maybe Pretty Woman or Tattoo. And, all of us hardcore VH fans will hate it. LMAO…..

Hot For Teacher might not be ‘wholesome’ enough – especially after all the flack they got over Janice showing off one of her boobs a few years ago.
