I wonder if there’s going to be a special “Japanese only” release?

Hmmmmm

When Rolling Stone asks Van Halen after the show about the band’s current plans, the guitarist is ambivalent, noting that the group has no immediate plans to record or tour. “I’d love to make a studio record,” he says. “Depends on everybody’s timing. I don’t know what Dave [Lee Roth] is up to now. I don’t know if he’s living in New York or Japan or wherever he is.”

Ron, isn’t that quote from a long time ago? I don’t keep track of such things, but that seems vaguely familiar…

It’s in the story published today: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/live-reviews/eddie-van-halen-shares-life-story-van-halen-update-at-smithsonian-20150213

I said the same thing. The people I know who said they have tickets lined up said, “It’s the Van Halen way, Deny until you’re ready to announce.” So, I’m going to let myself believe there will be dates released soon. Only time will tell. Something will be announced before March 31st.

Hard to read into what comes from VH but wonder if this is just Ed creating a bit of drama.
Also thought Dave might have been at the event.

I’m not going to read into Eddie’s comments about Dave. I’m Just going to wait for the live album and enjoy it for what it’s worth. Who knows what is really going on up there. All I know is there’s a new live set coming out and I’m going to get it. I do think the Tokyo show will sound really good. Comparatively speaking, Def Leppard released the Viva Hysteria live cd and it sounds great. I have the audience recordings from Vegas and the professionally released version sounds way better. I feel the same about Led Zeppelin’s Celebration Day release. The professionally released version sounds killer. I really think this new live recording from Van Halen will deliver sonically. Vocals enhanced or not the music will be fantastic!

Any professionally released, soundboard mix will be mixed and mastered to sound cleaner than a bootleg, but there are some people who prefer to hear the live mix vs. the studio mastered mix. What is “better” is up to the listener. It’s all good.
I’m mainly interested in whether or not they’re touring, because I want to attend a couple shows and this is not a good year for me financially. so if they ARE planning to tour, I need to start trying to bank some cash.

I’ve heard others say this, but I don’t quite understand it. It wasn’t a “Van Halen” (the band) event. It was about Eddie Van Halen – and Eddie Van Halen only. Other than briefly pointing out that Al & Wolf were there in the front row – that was as much limelight as they got (which basically was none). And neither Wolf or Al hung around for the reception afterward. I assume this was because they felt it wasn’t about them.

From Kevin Dodds at links & author of a EVH book..

Hey man — it’s a gut feeling I have based on everything that’s happened recently. Don’t get pissed at me because I would have a really hard time imagining that anyone in the world wants them to work together again as much as I do. The Dave and Ed duo are part of my DNA. I’ve had a lot of time to think about it and talk about it with other folks and it’s the general feeling right now. What I said specifically was “I do not feel” that they’ll work together again — never said they would not and said that I’d love it more than anything.

Just a gut feeling based on recent events and quotes. I also know I’m not the only one that’s been putting these dots together. I cannot emphasize enough how much I hope it is not true — let me state emphatically for the record that there is little in this world that would please me as much as a new album and/or tour with Dave.

I cannot wait to hear the live record. I hope and I suspect it sounds killer. Otherwise they would not release it.
