guitard: As a veteran of many concerts in the ’70s, I can say that none of the bands that I saw from that era that are still performing are anywhere near what they used to be in terms of their ability to physically get wild and crazy on stage. There’s a huge difference between what you can do in your 20s compared to what you can do in your 60s.Look at footage from a Kiss show from back in the ’70s – those guys were all over the stage. But not anymore.Just not possible.

I definitely get that. Not by any means looking for or expecting a repeat of the wonder years. I just think there could be improved visuals. I’m a little distracted by how much it seems like Dave is performing in his own little world. I love Dave’s interaction with Ed during the solo to Ice Cream Man. They have other moments in the show together, but there could and should be more of that kind of camaraderie.

guitard: Not tonight.CBG went to security in Charlotte and asked them to contact VH’s stage manager.Security contacted him via walkie-talkie and VH’s stage manager flat out said NO to video. He had managed to snag a 3rd row center ticket and prepared to film the show.

It might just be anyone in the VIP section.

Ron got the same message last week at DTE.

The rest of us had no problem at all.

A stage manager is different than a tour manager or a member of the band.

When you turn on your stereo, does it return the favor?

I know I posted this above but, since we’re talking about stagecraft, showmanship, etc. I’ll re-post this compilation of stagecraft highlights.

I notice that Ed is doing a few things here & there, like getting on one knee

and playing a solo, etc. Maybe a conga line ?

I don’t know if anyone has brought it up yet but I was wondering, while watching some of the video from the current tour… Does Dave use AutoTune live? The only reason I say this is because if you take the early promotional appearances and the first 2, maybe 3 shows of 2015, Dave’s voice is clearly struggling in several places. Within only 5 or so shows the vocals become far better. And at the most recent shows, he has kept this up… I’m just throwing it out there. Don’t get me wrong, if we get this kind of quality out of Dave and it takes a little technology, I’m all for it.

i would doubt they use autotune. I think he just got warmed up after a few shows.

not sure this has been brought up yet (sorry if it has) but i have noticed even on my recording from camden DLR is/has done his signature scream that was not present in 2012 and if he tried it, EPIC FAIL..! this tour he finally stayed in a much more manageable range… sans DTNA…. ugh… IMHO..

This is taken from images of a VH 2015 tour itinerary that was recently on eBay.
TTT = The Three Twins (Ed/Al/Wolf)

You can see that Dave didn’t stay anywhere near the Van Halen’s in these cities. I found it interesting just how far away from each other they stayed. Dunno about the rest of the tour.

Looks like Dave pocketed a few extra dollars by staying at cheaper hotels.
