OK here we go! Some stuff to talk about.

Let’s kick things off with the big one from Jersey Jack Pinball. A week or two ago Kaneda’s Pinball Podcast shared a rumor that JJP was working on a pinball machine based on the 80s and 90s rock band Van Halen (EDIT: and 70s, but that era pre-dates me so I don’t think of them in terms of that decade). At the time I didn’t write about it because I had always heard that the rights to Van Halen were a tangled mess, starting from the fact that the band had two different lead singers, David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar, and continuing into the rights to the songs themselves and the fact that Eddie Van Halen had passed away.

So I set out on my own to verify this rumor. I spoke with two very knowledgeable people on the subject and sure enough, Van Halen is indeed coming from Jersey Jack. I’d put the probability at 100%. I do not know the exact timing of the game, but I heard that they were getting approval from the Van Halen estate for aspects of the game already so if I had to make an educated guess, I’d say that this will be JJP’s game after Steve Ritchie’s Sonic the Hedgehog. That jibes with what I reported a month or two ago about the game after Sonic being a music pin. If that is the schedule, then Van Halen is Mark Seiden’s game, his second after Avatar: The Battle for Pandora.

Music is obviously somewhat subjective, but I like Van Halen as a band. I personally have always been more of a Sammy Hagar than a David Lee Roth guy, but I like both. 5150 and OU812 were my favorite VH albums. What about you, are you a Hagar or a Roth person? What do you think of the theme?

Van Halen at JJP von Seiden!?
After Sonic, things continue merrily at JJP
Published on April 25, 2026 by Flipper-News

Following Steve Ritchie’s upcoming Sonic game (“This will be the fastest pinball game I’ve ever created.”), Jersey Jack Pinball (JJP) is apparently poised to release another blockbuster. VAN HALEN is already in the concept phase with game designer Mark Seiden (Avatar 2), according to the usually very well-informed industry insider Chris Kooluris (aka Kaneda ). This rock music license is, of course, even bigger in the US.

“Van Halen as Flipper would be fantastic if it happened, given the well-known hurdles and internal disputes surrounding licenses, deceased band members, changing lineups, and multiple singers,” explains Facebook user Sean Frangella. “Hopefully it works out, even though the band members’ children have explained to US streamer Jamie Burchell why it’s unlikely and have discussed it in podcasts.”

The idea of JJP seeking a strong music or pop culture theme like Sonic isn’t entirely new. Van Halen, however, would be an extremely obvious choice for a manufacturer like JJP: a legendary rock band like Guns N’ Roses , strong brand recognition, and plenty of material for music, light shows, and gameplay. Especially with a high-quality licensed pinball machine, such a theme could become a real crowd-pleaser.

What’s so appealing about the leak?

The fact that Kaneda is named as the source makes the story even more interesting for many pinball fans. His statements are often followed closely in the scene because he has reportedly given early hints about upcoming themes and projects on several occasions in the past.Should the Van Halen rumor prove true, it would be a real coup for many collectors. The band offers an enormous musical range, a strong stage presence, and a high nostalgia factor – perfect ingredients for a modern pinball machine.

Van Halen was a rock band from the USA. It was formed in 1972 and named after its guitarist Eddie Van Halen and his brother, drummer Alex Van Halen. After Eddie Van Halen’s death in 2020, the band finally disbanded after numerous lineup changes.
