Howdy,

I would like to watch the legendary Montreal ’84 concert video in the near future.

Is the Scorin’ At The Forum fan-made 2DVD set, which was released 20(!?!?) years ago, STILL the best version of the show?

http://www.vhboots.com/scorinforumdvd.html

While we’re at it, is there a definitive list of the best DVD versions of the Dave-era concert videos?
I have all/most of the BTB Dave-era DVDs, and was wondering if there were any upgrades floating around.
Seems unlikely, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.

Thanks!

Thanks Ron. Much appreciated.
It would be nice if the uploader shared his source video in MKV format.
As we know, YouTube compression drastically degrades the overall quality.

I’ve never compared. How does YouTube MP4 video look compared to YouTube MKV video?

Howdy Ron,

I was referring to the uncompressed video that Master Tape Network uploaded to YouTube.
I’ve downloaded the Montreal 84 video from YT and it was 2.12GB.
Being that the concert is 103 minutes long, and upscaled to 1080p, I bet the uncompressed (pre-YouTube) source video is around 10GB.
I would LOVE to have the uncompressed (pre-YouTube) Montreal ’84 1080p video. If Master Tape Network sees this, please consider sharing it with us.
Thanks!

The original source is a VHS tape. Anything 1080p is just upscaled & not actually 1080p

Yes, I am aware that the source tape has a resolution around 240 lines. However, it would be nice to see the uncompressed 1080p Montreal ’84 “remaster”, before it went through the YouTube compression algorithm.

40 years ago tonight, Van Halen played the Forum in Montreal and luckily the whole show was taped by Pierre on Beta I think. I got my first copy on VHS in early 1985 from mrmojohalen and I still remember the chills I got when Dave did his jump off the drum riser at the beginning of Unchained. Good times, damn good times.

It was probably 1986, as I didn’t have 2 VCRs until later in 1985.

I got this from Pierre in June of 1984. I rented a VCR to watch it

I went to a friend’s brothers house to watch it as well.

Having a live VH video was much different than an audio recording.

It was a blast to watch again & again.

When you turn on your stereo, does it return the favor?
