When you turn on your stereo, does it return the favor?

I love everything about Dave …. but I think he took his role in this performance a little too far. It was Mike Love’s night … but Dave was hoggin’ the spotlight too much on this song in my opinion. I don’t think Dave did this on purpose or to take anything away from Mike Love. It’s just not in his DNA to be anything but the star of the show; he just doesn’t know how to play second fiddle.

But for all I know ~ Dave performed exactly as he was told to perform.

Who knows?

Pretty cool that Dave was invited to do this. I don’t feel he stepped on Mike Love too much. They traded off lyrics fairly well. I’m sure they wanted Dave to be himself up there. I still have more trouble with Dave’s voice than anything. He doesn’t sound good to me. Oh well, thanks for posting the video. Cool to see!

I think this might be the first time Dave shared the stage with another singer!
Is that John Stamos on guitar? Never thought I’d ask that lol!

Yes, that was Stamos! The last time I saw the Beach Boys which was at Riverside Park in Agawam, Ma, Stamos was their drummer.

I love Dave but you are right, his voice has not aged well. My son asked me a few weeks ago when was it that Dave started sounding like an old man!

I saw the Beach Boys in concert once … sort of …

Back in my college days, the Beach Boys were playing at the basketball arena on campus. I wasn’t a fan, so I didn’t plan on going to the show. I was in my room studying and while taking a break, I realized the concert should be in full swing. The arena was only a five minute walk from my dorm, so I thought, “What the heck … why not walk over there.”

I get to the arena and noticed some of the side doors had windows that were about one foot by one foot. I look through one of the windows and I’m really surprised to see that I actually had really good side shot view of the stage from pretty close up. I figured I’d stick around and catch some of the show for free … but before long … a few others saw me and came over to check it out. And after a little while, there were probably a half dozen or so people trying to peer through this one window.

This long haired stoner dude shows up and loudly proclaims that he just smoked a joint with Dennis Wilson. I’m thinking, “Suuuuuuure. Right in the middle of the concert, you just smoked a joint with Dennis Wilson.”

I thought I’d play along with his story though, so I pretend that I believe him and started asking questions like, “So what did you guys talk about?” “Did he have much to say?”

The stoner dude said he asked Dennis what he thought about East Lansing (this was at Michigan State University), and he said Dennis responded, “Oh … is that where we’re at?”

I asked where did you actually meet him, and he said it was outside one of the same kind of doors, but on the other side of the arena. He said he was standing there and Dennis just walked out and fired up a joint and offered to share it.

I had a little more fun asking stoner dude questions and pretending that I believed him.

The next day I was reading the student newspaper – which had a really great music section that always had comprehensive show reviews. While reading the review for the Beach Boys show, I read a blurb that said, “During the middle of the concert, someone threw a towel at Dennis Wilson, and he stomped off the stage and his whereabouts was unknown for 15 minutes.”

I could only think … “I’ll be damned … stoner dude was telling the truth after all~!!”
