Kiss soon will be a cover band. there was a thread about Gene saying Kiss will go on even is he and Paul are out of the band.

I don’t specifically know of any KISS cover bands, but I’m sure a google search would turn up several of them. And I would imagine they range from guys who can look and sound just like the real thing – to guys who are downright pathetic. What I doubt you’ll ever find, however, is a KISS cover band that even comes close to having the same stage setup as the actual current KISS band. And that over-the-top stage and everything that comes with it is a huge part of the show. Let’s face it – Gene and Paul can’t go on forever. But they can put together a young, energetic KISS cover band that looks, sounds, and acts just as good as (in some respects, probably better than) the real thing. Yes – they would be the same as all the other kiss cover bands in that they don’t have any original members – and everyone going to one of their shows would know that. But with that stage and all the theatrical support the current band has backing them – I think you could go to one of their shows and you’d still walk away feeling like you just saw one helluva concert. To me it’s not much different than other big entertainment attractions like Cirque du Soleil or Holiday on Ice – productions that have been going on for years where the performers change out on a regular basis.

but will people pay 150.00 $$ a ticket to see that..?? KISS cover bands.?..how can they pay for that production..?
I saw them in 1977 and thought it was the greatest thing ever….until I heard the bootleg..I watched Rush blow them away in 1975..they never were that good sounding, their stage show could distract your ears..they needed it…Van Halen didn’t..(until now)

I think if Paul and Gene ever really do retire and try to keep the KISS band alive it will turn into a Vegas type show with huge production, ie lots of pyro and lights and people will probably be willing to pay $50/ticket to see it. Maybe it will even tour the country kind of like The Australian Pink Floyd or Brit Floyd shows. I know here in the northeast US those shows sell pretty well and after seeing the Aussie Floyd show they do a damn good job at recreating a Pink Floyd show.

Dave has been shot for a long time. The only thing that has kept him afloat has been touring playing Van Halen covers. He wasn’t good at all on the 2012 tour. He sounded his best in Japan in 2013, but that was still pretty poor. An old friend used to tell me the only reason Dave could get away with his performances, even on the last two tours with VH, was because the band was solid. Songs like Ice Cream Man and The Full Bug, he didn’t even sing half of the words and just ran around the stage. I still prefer hearing those SONGS over anything from the Hagar era live, so I can tolerate Dave just to hear the good stuff.

As far as KISS, we played a show a few years back opening for Smashmouth and the second band was a KISS cover band. They looked pretty good and put on a good show. Certainly not a stadium show, but they did a great job replicating the Destroyer look.

I guess I would not go as far as to say “Roth is done…” I hope he is going out with VH again as any type of VH is better than nothing. But I will say this…. to me…. to me he sounds like crap these days and just does not do it for me anymore. Now that being said considering his age, his awesome run with VH and solo career and the life he has led he has done fantastic and I loved every second of it. But these days we just need to consider time, age and overall awesome run VH has had. I will cherish any and all continued activity VH has (roth or hagar), I will go to any future concert of theirs I can and try to relive my favorite all time band best as I can no matter what they do but these days VH to me is better on bootleg dvd and or original albums…. I also don’t care if its Roth or Hagar…. both of them to me sound stale these days live..

but that being said, I’ll still enjoy the helloutta anything they put out. Because its Van fuckin Halen baby!!!!

And more importantly – he still gets all those panties tossed up to him on stage. On average, they are several sizes larger than what he used to get in the ’60s and ’70s – but so what?

If Dave stays in his lower range he’s fine. He sounded good with the Foo.. anyone saying otherwise is expecting too much.

I saw the whole soundcheck at Tacoma Dome in 2012 and the band was absolutely on fire or solid as voodoo said and I could have watched 4 hours of that easily but when you added Roth for the show well enough said. Time for a singer who is on par with the band.

It’s either Dave or nobody so I’ll go with Dave.

But yes, I’ll agree that he’s less than good.

Maybe i need to drink more beer. It’s not that he was terrible but it was the whole forgetting the words and the show here didn’t seem to flow. Maybe they were on cruise control that night or maybe a little worn out. Anyway Dave was still a great showman that night and i wish i’d brought my camera instead of my iPhone only. I was about 20 feet away from the corner of the stage and every time i’d pull out the phone DLR would come running over and pose for the picture. With a decent camera i would have had some great shots.
