jroundy: no excuse for Ed to be dick.

Ed can think whatever he wants about Mike, but he shouldn’t be bashing him in public.

My thoughts exactly

I read it as Eddie was just finally speaking his piece. Quite frankly it’s really nothing that we haven’t heard somewhere before. The new thing for me is that Eddie is actually trying to please the fans, that is a switch to me after many years. At the end of the day these guys live in a world that we can never understand, they are all spoiled rock Stars who can’t take any level of negativity or criticism, they all have more money than we can ever dream of, and bitch about everything. But in the end we all still pay to see them or buy their music so we just perpetuate it. Billboard did its job, got some scuttlebutt going to sell some magazines. Can’t you see Dave next week when the tour starts saying something to the audience about him and Eddie being friends?!

I will go to the shows, buy the music, but honestly won’t get too upset by anything any of them says. But that’s just me.

Let’s face it, my friends, all of our bands from back in the day are coming out with stories. VH just seems to have more stories than others. They seem to be airing out their dirty laundry more than any other band. Back in the day, reading Circus magazine and everyone saying how happy they are, those days are long gone…now we are getting the real truth.

I think they might have genuinely been happy back then … back when they were young, making more money than they ever thought possible, and having their choice of hot babes on a nightly basis.

Inevitably, however, life eventually gets in the way of everything that was once fun.

It has been such an overreaction to the article. Eddie does not like Mike; who cares? Also, I have brought it up a few times, but if Mike is so nice etc why did he not call Ed when he got cancer and when his mother died?

Anyway, VH made great music. Just because they are not all friends does not take away from that.

Did he know? Maybe he didn’t find out right away, and by that time too much time has passed and it would have been weird to call? We have no idea what the specifics of all of it are…

This is a good point… it’s very possible no one told Mike.

Hell…. they didn’t even tell him he was out of the band. Mike said he found out he was being replaced with Wolf just like everyone else…. a press release.

After all the years together, Ed or Al can’t meet with Mike and tell him they have decided to make a change. That is really fucked up and dysfunctional.

But then again, I always let it slide, because Ed was so fucked up on drugs. But now he is sober, there is no excuses.

What did Eddie say that was so bad? He holds a grudge against Mike. He did not call him an asshole etc. All he did was mention that Mike contributed very little to VH. Now we can debate this, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with Eddie saying what he did in the interview.

Dave: Another interesting take: http://klosterfuck2015.tumblr.com/post/122231561900/van-halen-fans-step-away-from-the-ledge

Interesting read.

jroundy: Alex didn’t really contribute either…. Ed has always said he really writes the music, and Dave or Sam would write the lyrics.

For me… Mike brought as much to the band as Alex.

for me in any band…usually the bass player and drummer aren’t bringing in songs (not traditional songwriters)… but in my mind they are songwriters and I always prefer the 4 way split. Like Alex is coming up with his own parts. He’s “writing” them. Now I believe Ed recorded or showed Mike lots bass parts, more because he’s the musical genius, control freak.

But in Sammy’s leaked bio… He goes off on Alex not being a songwriter and Alex making $ off Sammy’s songwriting action in the band. Sam basically confirmed the stuff Ed said about Mike here, and then demeans Alex like Ed demeans Mike about songwriting. Too much drama.

He basically said Mike has no talent…. can’t play the bass, can’t sing.

It is his opinion on Mike’s talent. Whether right or wrong, there is nothing bad about Eddie stating that. We live in an age where no celebrities speak their mind and if they do they are demonized.

Well, if Ed wants to be a dick by stating his opinion publicly… he has accomplished this very clearly.

I wish Ed had just kept this opinion to himself, because I have always liked Mike, and feel he doesn’t deserve to be treated this way.
