I downloaded Dave’s show…..if anyone wants it, I will put it in my Dropbox account.

Just ask.

The poor folks play for keeps down here…They’re the living dead. Nobody rules these streets at night like Van Halen!!

Yeah it is. I can remember a lot of people leaving the Hartford CT show after about Dave’s 3rd song. It was a joke. It was really depressing seeing the guy I idolized through my child hood become a fuckin clown on stage. It was like seeing a mediocre Van Halen cover band. I ended up going from lawn seating to about 5th row because a couple who was leaving passed by my wife and I and gave us their tickets. We ended up leaving before it was over.

I don’t remember much of Sams set, he went on first that night.

I authored some of those 2002 shows to DVD and loved them.

Which came out the best. The only one I have is the Hartford show.

I like the Sam and Dave tour. A lot of great songs played. I saw them in Peoria, IL with Dave opening. Some people behind me were laughing during Dave’s set, and not with him, but at him. It was kind of embarrassing. The songs were great, but he had lost it at that point. 2007 marked a huge comeback for him I think. Well, until this year :)

Yeah I love all the bootlegs I have seen from this tour. I went to a show in Los Angeles at the Universal Amphitheater – the one where Dave went on last. Sure Sammy kicked ass, but I thought Dave was great. There was no mass exodus except until after the last song Jump. Sure some people were complaining cause Dave was not doing stuff he could do in 1982 and 1984, and because he could not scream as high or jump off the top riser. Yeah I heard some fans talking shit while walking from the venue to the parking lot. But more were happy and had a great time. I thought both bands sounded good. Sure Dave’s band was not Van Halen, but they did not suck and they sounded better than the real Van Halen doing Dave era songs when I saw them in 1995 and 2004 with Sammy singing. I went to Van Halen also in 2007 and a few weeks ago, and I really enjoyed it. Sure it’s not the 70s Dave or the 80s Dave. But it is still a good kick ass show and I went away happy and feeling young again, having forgotten life’s problems for the moment. Maybe the show I saw was better cause he was basically headlining and it was like a hometown show. I did not even drink at the show either and I had good seats. But like I also said, the bootlegs I have seen are great. Or maybe I just don’t have crazy expectations that a guy in his 40s or 50s is gonna be able to match the greatness of his twenties.

Its not fair for fans compare these guys to 20 or early 30 year old versions of them when there in their late 40s, 50s, or 60s. It would be like if your wife always compared you in bed too how you were in your 20s when your in your 50s.

I saw that tour when it came to NJ & I thought both guys did a great job. Dave’s band did a great job with the VH material. Sure they sounded like a VH cover band but to Dave’s credit, that’s what the people came to see. That’s why almost all of his set was VH songs. Sammy knew that too. His set included a lot more VH than he typically did at the time. I didn’t see a show that Mikey showed up at with Sam, but that was a nice bonus for those who did.

I still think it’s funny that these guys couldn’t get together long enough to get a tour shirt with their picture together! I have a bootleg shirt from that tour & that’s the only way you could get Sam & Dave on the same shirt. Huge potential on a one-shot merchandise bonanza sadly lost to egos.

So, speaking of 2002 shows… I was looking around the Internet for info on the Sammy Hagar & The Waboritas …. August 27, 2002 show.

I noted that it had been torrented at DIME, but that it no longer appeared on DIME (they must expire old torrents). However, I found a copy of it over on archive.org, which surprised me. I had no idea that archive.org kept copies of audio like this.

http://archive.org/details/Hagar2002-08-27AUD_SA-master_Gilford_NH

The above page appears to be a copy of what was posted on DIME originally. Kinda handy if you’re looking for something that DIME has expired. Too bad they didn’t keep the FLAC files as well.

EDIT: Further clicking resulted in this page: http://archive.org/details/etree Where I see that they have archived thousands and thousands of live shows! Mostly from bands I’ve never heard of, but still, pretty amazing.
