Ted Nugent, ‘She’s Gone’ (Featuring Sammy Hagar) — Exclusive Song Premiere
by Jeff Giles
June 9, 2014 10:49 AM

Ted Nugent fans have a lot to look forward to lately, what with a new album from the Motor City Madman due in July and songwriting already under way for the follow-up. But why wait? Ultimate Classic Rock has an exclusive premiere of some new Nugent right here and now.

We’re offering your first glimpse of Nugent’s new album, ‘ShutUp&Jam!,’ with the track ‘She’s Gone,’ featuring vocals from special guest Sammy Hagar. “When I first heard Ted’s demo of this song, I immediately responded with ‘I’m in,’” explained Hagar in a press release. “Ted’s ripping the guitar like the days of old…very inspiring to sing to a track like that — old-school blues riff, hard edged rock ‘n roll on fire!”

“My guitar has never gently weeped, but she does suckerpunch me mercilessly at regular intervals,” added Nugent. “‘She’s Gone’ is just another example of what we do together every day after I complete my ranch chores at home in Texas, and the MotorCity soulmusic slugfest erupts into spiritual love songs like this. Sammy Hagar said he wasn’t interested in writing or singing any more pop songs, so he fell in love with this masterpiece jammout instantly. Clearly Sammy and I deserve each other. And she’s gone.”

You can check out the track — which also features an appearance by Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels drummer Johnny ‘Bee’ Badanjek — via the video embedded at the top of this post, and keep your calendars marked for July 8, when ‘ShutUp&Jam!’ arrives in stores.

Thanks for the heads up. Ted’s guitar sounds good on this one! It reminds me of Goin’ Down though.

I thought the same thing right from the beginning.

Man, I don’t know… Sounds like they made that up on the spot. Sound quality is good, but as a song it’s bad.

OK ya that songs is bad but i bet they’re having a blast doing it. Hope that’s not the best song from the new project. Just my 2 cents.

I like it. I have always wondered why the two haven’t recorded together.

When you turn on your stereo, does it return the favor?

I’ve never been a Ted Nugent fan, I know maybe 1 or 2 of his songs. I’m obviously a Sammy Hagar fan or otherwise I probably wouldn’t be on this site. Having said that, this is the best new song that I’ve heard recently.

Wow.. pretty much what I expected from sam.. lazy, pedestrian lyrics…
Also – you have to admire how humble the nudge is:
“She’s Gone’ is just another example of what we do together every day after I complete my ranch chores at home in Texas, and the MotorCity soulmusic slugfest erupts into spiritual love songs like this. Sammy Hagar said he wasn’t interested in writing or singing any more pop songs, so he fell in love with this masterpiece jammout instantly. Clearly Sammy and I deserve each other.

He got that last part right.

Resident dickhead. I will hurt your delicate feelings.

I don’t know if Sammy wrote the lyrics to this song, Ted might have written the lyrics.

KNAC.COM: “She’s Gone”, the duet you do with Sammy (Hagar) …

TED NUGENT: Yeah, it’s a motherfucker.

KNAC.COM: It’s a nod to the JEFF BECK GROUP’s “Going Down”.

NUGENT: It’s certainly a nod to “Going Down”. And the original Freddie King one, too. You bet. It’s a classic, but I turned it upside down. It’s “Going Down”, the Freddie King and Jeff Beck “Going Down”, but instead of the line going down–instead of going [sings Down, down, down, down, down], it goes [she's gone, gone, gone, gone, gone] It’s inverted.

KNAC.COM: Like it’s going up a staircase.

NUGENT: Yeah. I had a long talk with Sammy, of course I’ve had a long talk with Sammy–it started in 1974. We’ve always threatened each other to collaborate and jam. We’ve always jammed together. Hell, I’ve been onstage with Sammy, and he with me, certainly dozens of times, with MONTROSE and the TED NUGENT BAND and VAN HALEN and THE WABORITAS and every imaginable gig you can imagine. And we’ve always wanted to do this, but he expressed to me clearly, “I don’t want to write pop songs. I’m not worried about hit records. I want to play soulful jams with musicians that I respect.” And I sent him “She’s Gone” and he goes, “That’s exactly what I’m talking about. This is it. This is what I live for.” So you can hear that passion on the record.
