Hi, just wondered if someone could throw some light on a couple of vinyl sets I have had for some years now, which were released (??) by The Source NBC Radio over in your US of A, I guess. It is not a process I am familiar with and just wondered how they came about and why? I have never actually dared play them and assume that they are just recordings of Radio shows featuring officially released studio tracks in support of an event?

Van Halen’s Memorial Day Party – 6 LP set in Box from The Source NBC Radio Network Broadcast May 25, 26, 27 & 28 1984.

The Source Christmas Countdown – 3 LP set from The Source NBC Radio Network Broadcast December 12th through 24th 1983

Many thanks

Steve

Pretty much right, officially released tracks, with lead ins/outs by Dave. Alot of, down memory lanes with Dave, dance parties and wet T-Shirt contests. The albums spans the first six album hits. Also to officially kick in summer were songs by the Stones, Huey Lewis, Blue Cheer,ZZTop and others. Actually a hard album to find anymore. Same with the Christmas CountDown….

Ahhh, the Memorial Day Weekend Special. It was a great listen, as I recall … interviews w/ all four + Dave’s DJ sessions … some weird rarities sprinkled in, like — The Suburbs’ “Love Is The Law” + Peter Tosh/Mick Jagger’s “Don’t Look Back” … and, AC/DC’s Sin City!! I had a party that hot Sunday Afternoon while listening …

Yes, they are worth something to a certain collector, at this point in time. Hard to find, as MikeyV notes. IMO, LISTEN to those LPs (and, capture digifiles, if you have the wherewithall), Steve. I certainly would … they’re not sealed/unplayed, right? SPIN SPIN! :)

… And, be transported back to the Summer of 1984, when The Mighty =vH= absolutely RULED the world of rock. And, rock radio was still pretty damn good, too.

What a wonderful, evocative scene you have set. Will certainly give them a (virgin) spin. They are all mint and unplayed, but what the hell. Life’s for the living!
