Posted by steecoe earlier this year. Yet another video I’ve never seen before.

Interesting to hear they planned to play Australia on that tour, but never did. I wonder what is/was so difficult for them to get down there. They have only played a handful of shows there and only one with Dave recently.

Yep they have only played here in 98 & the one show in 2013 at the Stone Music Festival..
Would have loved to have seen them here on any tour but the 5150 or OU812 would have been a great time for me to see them…

I remember when that ’98 Sydney show was shown on MTV. That was my first “bootleg” that I did myself. I don’t know if he’s on here, but Vince Garcia was overseas and wanted to hear the show, so I videotaped it, then ran the VHS deck into my PC, recorded the show, cut it up into tracks and then burned them onto CD with an old HP external 4x CD burner. I think I made more coasters than discs.

You have to remember that that was the tour when Ed’s hip was knacked and Al hurt his neck in Europe. I guess that was the main reason for them not coming here then. I have read interviews from back in CVH days where they mention coming to Australia. Shame it didnt happen.

IIRC it was an arm injury to Alex that cancelled several European shows.

Yeah, it was dubbed “The Ambulance Tour”, but it doesn’t make sense that this would stop them from making it to Australia, since they still made it to France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, the UK, Japan and also did four US legs on that tour. I can’t imagine why a few more shows in Australia would make things any worse.

I knew someone who booked tours. An Australian tour for Balance was booked, but not yet announced; it was scheduled to be after the Hawaii tour. As part of the tour, VH was going to play the Australian F1 Grand Prix. However, the story told was that Eddie’s hip got a lot worse; he was in too much pain. As such, the tour was canceled before it was announced. And for this then-21 year old a lot of sadness….

That would of been the last F1 race here in Adelaide. I didn’t know that they were in consideration to play it. Bon Jovi (ironically) ended up playing that day. 205,000 people made it to the race that day & close to 100,000 stayed for the concert.

VH would of killed that day… Damn it!!!

After reading the leaked portion of Sam’s unreleased book, it seems the band was in shambles by that stage and they were all itching to get away from one another by the time they got to Hawaii. It would see Ed’s hip was a convenient excuse, since they went to work shortly afterward on the “Twister” soundtrack and had the two new tracks with Dave ready by the following year. They were still working, just not so much with Hagar.
