Chris UK(2998) | Hi all, It occurred to me recently that it must be getting on for 20 years now since this site started. Can any of the old school give a definitive date when the first version of the site appeared? I guess Scott would know but he’s long since moved on. I wasn’t in right at the beginning but I must have known some of you folks since 1998/9. If it hasn’t already passed shouldn’t we mark our 20th anniversary? Chris.

guitard(7354) | I just looked up my email from Scott from when I joined – it’s dated December 1, 2001. I’m not sure when he started the site, but he’s kind of still around, just doing other things. I’m sure someone knows though and will chime in.

Chris UK(2998) | I first had access to the internet via the university where I worked and IIRC it was spring 1997. That said I dont know how quickly I found this place but I’m pretty certain it was 1999 at the very latest but more likely earlier. I remember you joining Randy!

Going through a difficult time currently as my mum died 2 weeks ago but have a good family who are helping me through it. I still check in here most days I just don’t post much. Pretty much gave up trading 8 or 9 years ago now, but still hoping some unreleased CVH pro shot stuff will find its way out sometime!

According to the list – you signed up January 20, 1999 and were the 17th person to sign up. I recognize a few of the names ahead of you, but I’m quite certain no one in that first 16 is still active. So that makes you the longest active member at the site! Sorry to hear about you mom. That’s one of life’s toughest moments for a lot of people …

Blimey oldest serving member egh whoda thought it! Back then I thought of my self as a newbie Brit interloper in this largely US based close knit club, but 18 years on its my oldest on-line home and I have made some great trading friends along the way here. I have a feeling there was an earlier version of this site before that tho although I could be wrong on that? In fact wasn’t there some kind of VH email news group that pre-dated VHT? I’m still in touch with Eddie Italian aka Marco YUUUNNNKKK! on Facebook I’m sure he pre-dates me here. Thanks for all the kind words re-my mum. Having already lost my dad 3 years ago and being an only child this has hit hard as I don’t have that many family close by now other than my wife and the boys. Anyway glad to be here and just 2 years to go to my 20th anniversary!

A mailing list devoted to trading VH shows was started as an off-shoot of the VHML back on Jun 9, 1998 (according to YahooGroups). The VHML (Van Halen Mailing List) was started way back in 1992.
