The name of the person who runs the MadHatter Records FB page is Roger Kinney. That name sounds familiar … but I can’t remember 100% if he is a former member.

So what happens when you buy a bootleg, and then release it for free?

Roger was one of the originals Randy. Remember Dallas Diver? Didn’t see much of him after that…

I’m not sure there are all that many possible outcomes … off the top of my head the only one I can think of is that other fans acquire it for free and enjoy it.

I get once you own it, you can do whatever you want with it… but do sellers of rare stuff, try to keep you from putting it out there for free?

Just curious.

I’m pretty sure in this day and age sellers know the deal: there isn’t a damn thing they can do about others making it available for free. Not to mention all the people who download and sell anything and everything they can get their hands on. A seller’s only real chance to make money is by selling a bunch of copies quickly before others get a chance to distribute it. And then there is method NYBC used to use: take orders for a new release, and once enough orders have come in – release it. There’s also the option of creating a limited release collector’s item with really nice packaging and extras.

I can’t speak for everyone, but I can say it hasn’t been made available here; at least not publicly. I doubt if anyone is trading it privately either, but I can’t say that with 100% certainty.

Mike – Do you know of anyone that has these shows ?

When you turn on your stereo, does it return the favor?

I’m not Mike, but the numbers I was given for the VHBoots.com entries are:
12 copies of the Pogo’s show: http://www.vhboots.com/catcharisingstar.html
9 copies of the Tucson show: http://www.vhboots.com/takesontucsonlp.html
The numbers are VERY low – these are hard to find/get items!

Mike mentioned the Wichita (Pogo’s) show being released in “EXCELLENT digital format”. I’m only aware of the LP release. The Pogo’s show was supposed to come on CD as well as LP, but I thought the CDs got scrapped. Maybe some were made?

I was wondering what ” EXCELLENT digital format” meant.

I’m looking at whats being said on board. The bottom line of this thread is get the damn record, rip to digital and start trading. With these shows being done on “vinyl”, it appears that the only recourse at this time is to do a digital transfer and clean it up. Is this going to be as good as the Master possibly in Flac? My experience says no, but what the hell do I know. I was just curious as to if anyone has the Pogo show in digital format that would sound better than a digital transfer of the LP.
My second thought of these unreleased shows. To acquire these shows it cost time and money. Trading shows for the benefit of trading shows to spread the love isn’t always the smart way to go. So they went old school and they put them on vinyl first, with stellar packaging, to recoup the overall cost of acquiring the shows. If they had released it by way of CD, they would never have recoup the cost. Now if and when you guys put them to digital, and you will, it will spread like wildfire, but the brothers at MadHatter will have already acquired their return on their investment…..and you have to do LP to digital transfer, chances are Madhatter may still have a superior product in the long run.
Just my two cents…..
