Notes: For years, TaperBT (aka TwisterTapes), his old buddy Krispy, my buddy Loudpuppy and I had all talked about doing the ultimate capture: multi-camera video edited and mixed with master DAT audio. Considering the frequency with which we spoke about it, it’s funny to realize that we really only pulled it together once with this show. The result is what I consider to be our finest guerilla film production.

TaperBT missed the very beginning and a spot in the middle due to recorder issues; the intro audio comes from my Canon ZR60, while the spot in the middle is covered by Loudpuppy’s Canon ZR40, as I was changing tapes at that moment. Krispy’s angle is from the side, using an unknown HD camera – he forwarded me the .avi files that I used for the editing. Loudpuppy’s camera is primarily aimed at the screens and the footage I shot was primarily close-ups and stage shots (my wife took the camera from me at a couple of spots – now long forgotten – while I ran to the restroom). The title comes from something Dave says on-stage during the show.

The performance was totally solid – we had seen them the previous October in Chicago and I loved that show. This one was probably an improvement, as they had seemed to have smoothed out the rough edges from the fall once they started the second leg of the tour. Of the three VH shows I’ve seen, this is my favorite. The audio and video editing make this come off as something approaching a professional production – for some, the editing might seem a bit fast (that was certainly BT’s opinion of my final job) – but, it certainly isn’t anything out of the current norms. Personally, I rewatch this show all the time and I’m excited to finally widely release it – if you’re a fan of the Mighty, then you’re going to want to see this. It’s arguably the best video of that tour.

Myself, I’m a fan of audience shot videos – I’ve shot 40 or so myself, and have 100s of old VHS tapes from collectors around the world. I really enjoy this video, but, your enjoyment will likely be determined by how much you tolerate somewhat shaky, somewhat blurry and generated picture. If you’re cool with that, then this might be something you’ll enjoy! Please don’t profit from this transfer – share it, post it, give it away, but, don’t make money off of it.

I shouldn’t bag on the production before I see this … but …

The audio and video editing make this come off as something approaching a professional production …(snip)… your enjoyment will likely be determined by how much you tolerate somewhat shaky, somewhat blurry and generated picture.

But this is one of those show descriptions that makes me go … “Hmm…”

How shaky are we talking about? Some shows are so badly shot I get motion sickness.

I jumped on at Dime but haven’t looked at it yet. I was also a little perplexed by the conflicting description, but I enjoy the mulitcams a lot more than a single shot so I thought I’d go for it.

I just watched a second of YRGM. Looks alright. Definitely watchable. I forgot the date was shortly before Ed went into rehab. As soon as I saw him with out a shirt and 5150 written on his back I knew it was a pre-rehab show. Dave certainly sounds better on that tour.

I doubt this claim….

“It’s arguably the best video of that tour.”

…but still curious.

The poor folks play for keeps down here…They’re the living dead. Nobody rules these streets at night like Van Halen!!

Randy’s videos are better, but this one is worth getting.
