Sammy Hagar Taps Joe Satriani for Van Halen-Focused 2024 Tour
Bryan Rolli
Published: November 14, 2023

Sammy Hagar has recruited guitarist and Chickenfoot bandmate Joe Satriani to join him on a Van Halen-focused 2024 tour. Hagar’s Circle bandmates, bassist Michael Anthony and drummer Jason Bonham, will round out the lineup.

The trek, dubbed the Best of All Worlds tour, will launch on July 13 in West Palm Beach, Florida, and conclude on Aug. 31 in St. Louis. Loverboy will open the dates. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday. You can see the full list of dates below.

“We’re gonna go deep into the Van Halen catalog,” Hagar told Howard Stern on Tuesday. “If you’re gonna go deep into the Van Halen catalog, you need Joe Satriani.”

Hagar noted that he and Anthony typically play “five or six Van Halen songs” on the road with the Circle. This time, he’ll flip the script and play “five or six of my songs” alongside Van Halen classics and deep cuts.

“When we go out next year in July, it will be almost exactly 20 years since Mike and I did a reunion with Ed and Al in ’04,” Hagar said. “Mike and I just said, ‘We can’t wait another 20 years. How long can I even sing these songs? How long can I do this stuff? I just thought it’s time to serve the fans.”

Hagar said that working on the recently released Collection II Van Halen box set inspired him to put this tour together. He also named “Seventh Seal” and “Amsterdam” as deep cuts he’d be excited to unearth.

“There’s stuff we’re going to do on this next tour that we haven’t played since that tour in 2004,” Anthony added.

Satriani, meanwhile, acknowledged that learning the Van Halen catalog is a Herculean task, but he’s up to the challenge. “There are things that are so iconic, you have to nail it,” he said. “But if you go deep with what he did live, he never played the same thing twice. He kept evolving, he kept pushing. He’d do the recorded version a little but but then he moved on.

“It’s a daunting task when you do the deep dive into what he did,” he continued. “But it’s good to start at the beginning, and then you just learn all his little improvs and you get the idea of what he was trying to do. It’s thrilling, it’s fun.”

In October, remastered editions of all four Hagar-era Van Halen albums were released in The Collection II box set, which also included a disc of rarities.

Thanks Ron….
I am glad Sammy and Mike are doing this but “The Best of All Worlds” isn’t the proper name…. lol… Only way that would be true is if,
1. Ed was still alive
2. Dave was there
3. Mike was there
4.Gary was there
5. Al was there
6. Wolf opened up for them and jumped on stage to jam a tune off of DKOT
The Kitchen Sink Tour as they were going to call it would be the only time Best of All Worlds would be true.
However kudos to Sam and Mike for putting it together. Not sure I was too pleased with Satch’s Ed licks on Howard Stern.
Satch is an amazing guitar player but I didnt think he is the right choice for Eds stuff. Vic does a better job on Eds stuff and to
be honest, all us VH fans that dedicate our playing to Ed could do a more accurate job lol…. yeah like Sam would pick us haha..
Good stuff thought :)

$250 a ticket at Red Rocks for this mornings pre-sale, which only offered wheelchair, limited mobility, and low vision/hard of hearing seating. This is the seating that I needed, and all of those seats sold out in less than 2 minutes.

Hagar announced the ‘Best Of All Worlds’ tour during a visit on The Howard Stern Show last week (November 14th) along with his tour lineup featuring bassist Michael Anthony, lead guitarist Joe Satriani, and drummer Jason Bonham. During his appearance, he stated that both Alex Van Halen and Roth are welcome: “If Alex Van Halen wants to jump out, if David Lee Roth wants to come out and join us — come on motherfuckers, you are welcome. This is about Van Halen!” The following day, he appeared on Sirius/XM’s Trunk Nation and publicly invited Roth to join: “From the bottom of my heart, he would be so welcome.”

Roth’s statement given to VHND, intended for Hagar, is this:

“I’m ready to go.

Let’s do this..”

Sammy was asked by a fan on Instagram to clarify his comments. The fan asked, “Diamond [Dave] says he’s ready to go on tour with you! What do you think about that?

Sammy answered, “He can come out and sing a song on a show or two if he can remember the words. He’s not invited on the tour NOOOO F***ing way. It was to sing a song with us somewhere like a lot of singers, guitarists, etc. are going to do on this tour. I know better than to have him on tour again. Been there done that.”

There is nothing interesting about this at all. Dave being involved would only make it worse. I would rather see someone like Dave Grohl or even Steel Panther do a VH Tribute show and have a couple dozen guest musicians jumping in throughout the show like they did with the Taylor Hawkins tribute show. Sam doing a VH “tribute” show with 3/4 of ChiFoo and throwing in his own solo shit is NOT a Van Halen tribute at all. It’s Sam cashing in on the VH name, once again.
