Work was done to tame the boominess and stadium echo. It had been nearly seven years since I last saw Guns N’ Roses live. Their lackluster performance in Austin on October 11, 2019 zapped my interest in the band. Fast forward to 2026. I assumed that this year’s tour would be GNR’s last. For this reason, I made sure to attend the North Texas date. Off the bat, I must state that Isaac Carpenter is a solid drummer. He was a massive upgrade over the incompetent drone, Frank Ferrer. Naturally, I would have preferred that Steven Adler and/or Matt Sorum returned to GNR in 2025. However, Carpenter is definitely the right man for the job when looking beyond Guns N’ Roses’ two Golden Era drummers. At 64 years of age, Axl tried his best and did what he could with his limited range. Slash was a beast on stage. Duff locked in with the new recruit behind the drum kit, Isaac Carpenter, to rock Globe Life Field to its foundation. Richard Fortus is definitely an underrated guitarist. The man can hold his own on stadium stages around the world. I can understand why he has been associated with GNR for decades. I believe that if Fortus was in the same social circles as GNR in 1991, he would have been tapped to replace Izzy Stradlin’. Dizzy Reed’s keyboard skills shined on tracks like Estranged and Nothin’. My very first concert was Guns N’ Roses/Metallica/Faith No More at the Houston Astrodome on September 4, 1992. I thought it would be fitting for my potentially last concert to be GNR in North Texas, as they were my favorite band as a teen. Thankfully, I was able to secure 2 lower level seats in the section closest to the stage at $115 each, 2 days before the gig. It pays to wait when buying tickets for bands that have overexposed themselves. I should make it clear that the acoustics of Globe Life Field were terrible. This recording reflects it. Lots of stadium echo and bottom end rumble. If you are interested in high quality Guns N’ Roses live recordings, I HIGHLY recommend obtaining the Use Your Illusion Super Deluxe Edition. This 8 disc box set includes pristine recordings of the infamous New York City May 16, 1991 Ritz show on Blu-Ray and double CD, as well as the amazing Las Vegas January 25, 1992 triple CD set. The Use Your Illusion Super Deluxe Edition box set is well worth the investment for serious fans! In case you were wondering, Six Flags Over Texas is a massive amusement park down the road from Globe Life Field. I’ve visited Six Flags over 50 times and highly recommend it to any thrill-seekers out there… Guns N’ Roses: Vocals: W.
