I have an idea for a compilation of the best performances from the many newly unearthed “Roy” soundboards from the 1982-1983 Hide Your Sheep Tour.
Considering that each gig was very similar, it would make sense to stitch together a traditional Diver Down setlist using the best performance of each tune, while also adding the rare tracks that were performed throughout the tour, such as the seldom performed Fair Warning material, and non-album covers.

Does anyone remember the 2001 Reunion fan-made 2CD compilation?
It would make sense to create a similar compilation out of the Roy SBDs for casual listening.

This project would require input from serious Van Halen fans like us.
There are so many soundboard recordings to sift through.
However, I’m not complaining.

What do you all think?

Thanks Ron. The tracks used in the YouTube compilations will be a good starting point for a 24 bit FLAC compilation.

I’ve been working on my own for a while now. Still finishing up adjusting audio levels between songs from different shows. I used Fort Wayne 7/31/82 as the basis, and substituted better tracks as needed. I’ll share it when completed.

Thanks for the info Jason!
This is great news.
I look forward to your finished product.

BTW, do you have ISOs of your DLR Media comp DVDs handy?

Unfortunately, the discs I received in trade from a friend, 20+ years ago have deteriorated.

I would love to have ISOs of your DLR media DVDs for archival purposes.
That set is one of my all-time favorite fan made releases.
Please let me know. Hopefully we will be able to work something out.

Thanks again!

Excellent setlist Jason! I’m eager to give your Diver Down SBD compilation a listen.
I’m curious, will the finished product be in 24-96 and/or 16-44?

Thanks again!

I’ve put together similar compilations for the first three tours so far. VH Village on YouTube has posted them with the artwork I include in the sets:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqlfyPhQGMg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syGq2GpAQfU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xh85ciAKRoo

I’m currently working on the Fair Warning tour. Listening to all the available tracks, choosing the best ones, blending the transitions, and creating the artwork takes me a lot of time and effort but it’s a labor of love. My goal is to do them all up to VHIII and maybe even one for the club days. Can’t wait to get to Diver Down as I’ll finally have soundboards to work with.

Someone done the same thing with the KISS Rock The Nation tour. It wasn’t bad but it had no atmosphere as there was no banter between the songs.

A huge thanks to ByTorX1 for sharing this previously uncirculated material; and to those who significantly helped with the absurd price tag that was required to liberate this VH collection.
