wolfvanhalen: Almost show time here in London, Ontario

ladieslovecoolgarrett: When you took this picture were you squatting? I bet you were squatting when you took this picture.

wolfvanhalen@ladieslovecoolgarrett: There’s a drumriser ya dipshit. I don’t need no squats.

ladieslovecoolgarrett: I know there’s a drum riser but I’m still getting a squat vibe. And don’t you DARE say you don’t need squats, we both know that everyone needs squats. PLURAL.

wolfvanhalen@ladieslovecoolgarrett: Maybe you’re just a “squat vibe” kinda guy. Like… You search for stuff like that when it ain’t there. No squats were needed in the taking of this picture.

ladieslovecoolgarrett: You can lie to me all you want but you can’t lie to yourself.

wolfvanhalen@ladieslovecoolgarrett: You can search for squats all you want, but you can’t search for squats to yourself.

kurtg.morris: Wow ,weird conversation…Good luck tonight WVH.

itsmerocky: I didn’t even think Wolf read these comments!

adamconn.26@wolfvanhalen: counting down the hours till Toronto!! You have skills that kill

ladieslovecoolgarrett: You know I can

Van Halen Rocks Western Fair District
By Heather Manners on August 6, 2015 4:23am

David Lee Roth of Van Halen at Western Fair District

Van Halen christened the Western Fair District’s new outdoor concert venue last night with bang.

An estimated 7,500 fans packed the new concert site at the racetrack to catch original members David Lee Roth, Eddie Van Halen and Alex Van Halen performing their hits like Jump and Running with the Devil in their over two hour show.

Wolfgang Van Halen, Eddie’s son, has played bass with the band since the 2006 departure of Michael Anthony. Western Fair District chief executive officer Hugh Mitchell says, “It’s really just the start,” for the new venue.

Back from London last night.

Pros & Cons:
- The band was full of energy, and so was the crowd. No shortage of that.
- Much smaller stage than normal for VH. Made for nice chemistry on stage
- Ed was in as fine form as he has been last few (all) shows. Totally amazing to be honest.

Flaws:
- Production. Was pretty much horrible. (no fault of VH)
- Had the equivalent tone of blown subs the entire time
- P.A. could not keep up with VH, peaked throughout almost entire show
- At one point, Al must have had his in-ear mix cut out or next to nothing, as he lost his click track (apparently) as even the most basic drum fills like in “I’ll Wait” he failed badly on. Totally not his fault, but it happened again and again, same fills, obviously apparent that he was not hearing the sequenced track. Was the start of a train wreck for the band, which they did recover from. (thankfully)

Biggest Flaw:
Media Credentials……….. (and communication between various powers that be)

Last minute before show time, my media passes for photos were pulled. Reason given, 2 of us from same company were there to shoot. Fairness and rules did not come into play here. My credentials were approved to shoot (and I have all confirmations) 5 days prior to event. Got to the venue, signed the Livenation contract/release.

Then was told my colleague from the sister radio station was only one allowed to shoot (on behalf of our company). He was approved less than 24 hours prior to the event, meanwhile I was approved better part of a week prior.

Western Fair staff were desperately trying to accommodate me, and felt horrible, but Livenation dictates what is what. I did get the run down from the director/person who coordinates all the photogs together which was quite interesting. Gave us the drill, please do not rush towards the center of the stage as “Mr Roth gets very uneasy with this..”. Approach slowly.

Also said, do not rest your lenses on the stage as if they are there, they can and WILL get kicked. Do not climb up on the barrier etc. Common sense.

And to add insult to injury, I was there to shoot, fully accredited, with $10,000 worth of gear, and my colleague shows up with one step above a point and shoot with a kit lens.

The good news is, I am in talks with the powers that be to compensate me tomorrow night for the Toronto show . This time I will quadruple confirm my accreditation.

To be honest, this was not Van Halen’s best show of the tour, BUT, I do not blame the band.

In all, I loved the day, even though it was an emotional rollercoaster. Can’t wait for Toronto (awesome venue)

Long live the Mighty Van Halen.
